Some were taking off their masks to enjoy the company of their partners but Loki and I didn't have that choice. Loki, despite being legally dead, is infamous for being his mother's whistleblower.

There were at least 50 people here. They were grinning from ear to ear, 'yung iba kinikilig pa nga.

The music started and Loki carefully placed his left hand around my waist, pulling me closer to him. Instinctively, I placed my left hand on his shoulder before our vacant hands held each other.

Loki started swaying slowly. I saw President Zharkov with a beautiful woman. Based on our research, they have a daughter, two years old pa lang.

They were laughing because the woman was subtly urging him to dance with her. I anxiously waited until President Zharkov gave in.

The president looked like he was having the greatest time of his life. The way his eyes glowed with amusement while he stared at his wife, I could tell he's utterly in love.

"Loki," I whispered in his ear. "Target. 2 AM."

"2 AM? But it's still 10 in the eve-"

"No," I mentally face-palmed myself. "Direction. They're at your 2 AM."

Hindi si Loki nakasagot agad. I think he's still checking out the direction I gave him.

After a few seconds, he pulled away to look at my face. Tinaasan ko siya ng kilay. "What's our next move?"

Hindi muna siya nagsalita. He was staring at me as if he's memorizing every corner of my face. His eyes looked like he was searching for something within mine but after a few seconds, he gave me a small smile.

Kumunot ang noo ko. "Well?" I asked again.

"Can we dance for a moment? Give me at least a minute."

My brows furrowed. "Pero wala 'yan sa plano-"

"A minute, Astrid," agap niya. "Spare me at least that small amount of time."

I contemplated it. It's only one minute. The president won't disappear within that small amount of time so I guess it's okay.

"One minute," I repeated just so we have a clear understanding.

Ngumiti siya. "One minute."

The violins started to grow the tension when the song reached its climax. He held my hand softly while I held his like it's a burning pot. His eyes bore into mine like he was searching for something in my soul kaya naman kahit saan na lang ako tumitingin para lang hindi kami magtama ng tingin.
