"Straighten your aim, Viserys."

I fumbled with the string of my bow before straightening my posture. Mamma eyed me with those cold blue eyes of hers that were brighter than mine. We're at the shooting range where I first learned how to use a bow and arrow. Three hills back stood our family's mansion.

Mamma subtly nodded at me when I glanced over in her direction, waiting for her permission to shoot.

I grinned before looking ahead.

One breath.

I need to hit the target at least two centimeters out of the red area. Mamma is very strict about my aim, and I don't blame her. I'm a very lousy archer, to be honest.

With tensed feet and a shaky breath, I tried aiming the arrow precisely at the target by closing my non-dominant eye... which resulted in me closing both of my eyes since I don't know how to wink.

Stupid eye muscles.

I sighed. In the end, I just kept both of my eyes open, hoping that I don't mess this up.

"Release."

And I obliged immediately.

After exhaling another breath, I let go of the bow's string, causing the arrow to shoot towards the target.

Bull's eye.

I grinned widely before glancing behind my shoulder to see Mamma's reaction. My happiness doubled when she regarded me with those proud eyes of hers. The corner of her lips tugged upwards for a small smile. My heart warmed at the sight. She crouched so she could reach my height.

"You did well, Viserys," she patted my cheeks and it felt like I did something that's worthy of global recognition. "What do you want to eat for dinner? I'll cook it for you."

I know it was a simple dinner but I felt like the happiest ten-year old on Earth.

That means we can eat sushi later!

"Sushi, Mamma," I replied. "With lots of avocados."

Mamma smiled before patting my head. "Very well, my love."

We continued where we left off. I was mostly focused on straightening my posture. Mamma held a long stick which she used to guide my back so it could be straight as a flagpole. I was tensed and nervous but the thought of having Mamma smile at me after every shot drove me to do better each time.

It was well past four in the afternoon when she decided to head back. I rode my little pony while she rode her high horse. It was a peaceful ride back home. She mostly asked me what I learned from my tutor. I've been homeschooled ever since I started learning. The provincial school is too far from the hills so I had to settle with my tutor Marcy.

When we arrived, the huge gates creaked as they opened. Mamma guided my pony to the stables before we made our way towards the entrance where a large fountain stood. At the enormous double doors stood Nonno and Nonna. I immediately ran to them for a hug.

Nonna let out a faint chuckle when my small arms wrapped around her slim neck.

"You're sweating, Viserys."

I was about to answer when Mamma spoke behind me.

"He did well today, Mamma. Il mio ragazzo sta crescendo." [Translation: My boy is growing up]

I grinned before glancing at Nonno who also had a small smile on his face. I beamed at him. "I managed to hit the target thrice!"

He let out a small chuckle before gently patting my head. "Show me your skill some time, boy."
