Saundro's POV
"You know I have to do this drea."
"No you don't have to Leo. She's a good person. She doesn't deserve what you're doing to her. We can get a job and help mom. You don't need that dirty money from Brian. We'll help......"
"Oh there you are." Our mother wheezed, interrupting Drea. "Didn't you hear me calling." She smiled.
"Yes mom. Sorry I made you climb those stairs." I smiled in response.
"Oh it's ok. I need the exercise anywahhhhhh." My mom held onto her tummy and bent over.
"MOM!" I ran to her, holding her.
"Ahhh ohhhhh!"
"You shouldn't be walking or even exercising." I helped her into my room and onto my bed.
"Sit here. Drea go for some water."
"Nonsense. I'm ok. Just needed to rest a bit."
She tried to reassure me and gave me a weak smile."Mom, the doctor said you should stay in bed."
"But I was coming to you. I was calling and you weren't coming so I came instead."
"Mom, I was on my way to you. You could have waited five minutes. I'd be there. By the way, have you taken your pills yet?"
"I don't want to. They make me sleepy and it's so hard to swallow."
"Mom you're not five. You need those pills to help you fight agains the colon cancer."
"Oh it's just a tummy ache boy. You always make it sound so serious." She said, playfully hitting my shoulder.
"That's because it is serious mom. You need to take your pills. DREA BRING MOM PILLS AS WELL!"
"Really Leo. I don't need to take any right now."
"Mom, after what I just saw, you need your pills."
"Here they are." Drea came in with the pills and a glass of water.
"Ok. Fine I'll take them jut to get you to shut up." She said smiling. "You guys always take such good care of me. I'm the luckiest mother in the world."
"No. We're the luckiest children in the world to have a mom like you." Drea said smiling.
"Ok mom. You can rest in my bed until you're strong enough to go back to your room."
"With our help of course." Drea interjected.
"Of course." Mom said. Laying down on my bed.
I smiled at her and watched her until she fell asleep. So did Drea.
When she was finally asleep, Drea and I left the room, closing the door behind us, and made our way to the dinning room.
"You see why I need to do this Drea. She's getting worst."
"I know, but Mia doesn't deserve this. She's my best friend for crying out loud. I can't stand by and watch her get her heart broken and that too by you of all persons. And I can see it Saundro. I can see it that you actually care about Mia. So please don't take Brian's money any more. We will work and I can ask my friends for donations. Ple......"
"NO SAUNDRA! NO! THIS IS THE ONLY WAY! MOM IS GETTING WORST AND THIS IS THE FASTEST WAY TO GET ENOUGH MONEY FOR HER SURGERY! SO IF I HAVE TO SACRIFICE MY HAPPINESS, THEN SO BE IT AND IF I HAVE TO BREAK A THOUSAND GIRLS HEARTS, THEN SO BE IT! AS LONG AS MOM GETS BETTER!NOTHING MATTERS TO ME ANYMORE BUT HER!"
Saundra then flinched from my sudden shouting. She lowered her head, but I saw the tears in her eyes. She then looked towards the entry way of the dinning room, as if mom would appear there at any moment.
"Look. I get it. I want mom to get better soon too. But I just don't think this is the best way, and I refuse to know these things and not warn my best friend. Her heart is going to be broken for crying out loud and........."
"Of course. Same old Saundra. Putting her friends over family." I said bitterly, interrupting her, "after all, you disowned me from what, two, three years ago because of that one stupid mistake I made. You will never forgive me for that."
She looked shocked and angry at the same time.
"Why do you keep on bringing that back up!" She hissed.
"Because you never let me live it down. You told me to not talk to you at school, you told me that at school, we're not related, I should not approach you, I shouldn't talk to your friends, I shouldn't be seen near you. Well unlike you, I'm thinking about our family and not my friends."
"ITS YOUR FAULT WH..."
"You might wanna tone down there. Remember mom is sleeping."
She looked at me angrily. Suddenly, she held on to my wrist and started dragging me out of the house, through the back entrance, into the backyard. My room was at the front, so we could shout all we wanted and mom wouldn't wake.
"YOU WERE ALREADY SHOUTING! I WOULDN'T BE SURPRISED IF MOM IS ALREADY AWAKE!" She said fuming. "Anyways, it was your fault why Rebecca went to the hospital from cocain overdose and had to go to a rehab center and the reason why we had to leave our old school, so yeah. I don't want to be seen as the juvenile delinquent's twin sister in public."
"First off, I didn't give Rebecca that cocain. She bought it herself and yeah the two of us took it. But I'm clean now, Rebecca is ok and she's clean as well. Secondly, this time is different. I'm not doing anything illegal and I'm trying to take care of our mother."
"By playing with Mia's heart though."
"It's either that or our mother Saundra. Cause if our mother dies, then I'm blaming you and I will never forgive you for it."
"So what about Mia huh? Did you think about the consequences of playing with her heart?"
"Of course I did. But it's either that or our mother's life. This shouldn't be such a hard decision for you Saundra." I sighed loudly. "Obviously you don't love our mother." And with that I started walking towards the door to go back inside the house.
"Wait." She said with her head down.
"But she's my best friend." She whispered."I know. But you have to keep it a secret. Don't do it for me. Do it for our mother." And with that, I left her outside to battle with her thoughts.
While I battled with my heart and my inner demons.
