EPILOGUE

"DJ! The party's fucking starting. Hindi ka pa ba tapos magpa-gwapo diyan?!" I heard my brother again for the nth time. "Ikaw ba ang may birthday? Special ka?"

I closed my eyes hard and opened the door to face him. As I expected, I saw him leaning against the wall while holding a glass of wine and smirking at me. "Can't you wait? Why do you care? Go down there, party all you want, or make out with some girls until Dad catches you," I said and rolled my eyes at him.

It's his birthday today and I don't want to come down. It's not because I'm not used to parties like this, it's just most of our guests aren't our friends. They are Dad's friends. Mga kaibigan niya sa business world. 'Yung iba ay business partners, engineers, CEOs, at iba pa. Kakaunti nga lang 'yung mga kamag-anak namin dito dahil halos lahat sila ay nasa Australia o 'di kaya ay sa Canada. Ewan ko ba kung bakit pumayag si Kuya na sila ang i-invite. Pwede namang kumain na lang kami sa labas.

"Tell me, brother, why are you always pissed off at me?" He let out a chuckle before wiggling his eyebrows in front of me. I want to shut the door at his face, but I know my mother's going to find me soon. "You need to join the crowd! Someday soon, you are going to be the CEO of the company."

"Fuck off, Kuya," I said and went out of the room. I heard my brother laugh behind me before tapping my shoulders twice and rushing down the stairs. I shook my head and sighed heavily as I look around the house and saw hundreds of adults in suits or uniforms. God, I hate business events.

Our father always tells us that one of us is going to be the next CEO of the company. I was expecting that it's going to be my annoying older brother, but he turned down and said that he doesn't want to be a part of our company. Instead, he wants to be a pilot. Sinabi naman sa amin ni Dad na ilang taon pa bago 'yon mangyari at siya pa rin ang may hawak ng desisyon. Pero kahit na gano'n ang sinabi niya, hinihiling ko pa rin na sana si Kuya ang maging CEO at hindi ako.

It's not because I don't trust myself in handling the company. It's because I won't have time for myself or time for relaxation. Every single day, I'll be facing my computer, answer those emails, attend those never-ending conferences, and have projects. It's just too much for me. That's not what I like to do in my life. I'm not a fan of business, companies, CEO things... it's a no.

Pinilit kong makihalubilo sa ibang pamilyar na tao rito dahil hinahatak din ako lagi ng kapatid ko o 'di kaya ni Dad para ipakilala sa iba. Palibhasa sa aming magkakapatid, ako ang hindi gaanong kilala dahil hindi naman ako gano'n ka-sociable, unlike kay Kuya na kahit baguhan sa isang lugar, mamaya may kasama na 'yan at kausap, mapa-babae o lalaki. Magnet ata 'yon pagdating sa social interaction.

"DJ! Come here!" Kuya Darnell called me. I saw him with his best friend, Elton Arellano, sitting at the bar station. Both of them were quite known as the 'players' of LCU so I'm not surprised to see them eyeing some of the ladies here while drinking. Wow, pinayagan pala siya ni Dad na uminom?

"What do you want now?" I asked him in a bored tone. He elbowed his best friend and then suddenly Kuya Elton called someone.

The girl was wearing a baby pink dress with her hair down. When our eyes met for a short time, I immediately felt nervous for no reason. She was having a silent conversation with Kuya Elton and she would steal glances at me before answering back to him. But wow, she's beautiful without even trying. When she looked at me, she smiled shortly and talked back to Kuya Elton.

"All right, DJ, this is my sister," Kuya Elton said.

"Y-You're what?" God, why did I stutter!

Kuya Elton laughed. "My sister, DJ. Sister."

My eyes continued staring at the girl. She was laughing and pushing her brother lightly because he was teasing her. At some point in time, our eyes will meet, she will smile at me shyly, and I would just look away. I can hear my brother laughing because of what's happening, and when I looked at him, he has a meaningful smirk on his face. Kuya Elton whispered something to his sister and it made her look at me before frowning. Her brother whispered again and they both laughed.
