LA California - Kailani's Apartment
January 9th - Sunday morning
•
Kailani's POV:I woke up to a knock on the door and picked up my phone seeing it was only seven thirty in the morning. "Who the fuck is it" I mumbled getting out of my bed. I was only wearing a sports bra and some Nike Pro shorts as I walked to the front door.
I opened the door and saw Kentrell standing there. "How did you get here?" I asked in confusion. "Um I have a car Lani-"
"Don't call me that" I said cutting him off, "I mean why are you here and how did you get my address?" I whisper yelled trying not to wake up Desire. "TJ told me where you lived and we gotta talk" he said inviting himself in and I scrunched my face before closing the front door.
"Look Kentrell I don't have time for this ok?"
"Where's Desire?" He asked and I shook my head in disbelief. "Why are you so concerned about my daughter?"
"What if she- never mind" he said before sitting on the couch and rubbing his hand down the side of his face ands I rolled my eyes. "Explain to me why you're here Kentrell....honestly we haven't talked in four years" I said shaking my head.
"When did you leave out of Louisiana?" He asked and I laughed to myself. "You want a story time? Fine where should I start? The part where you left to go live your happy life in California? Or the part where my alcoholic mother put me out of the house because I was pregnant with your kid and I had to live with my cousin working two jobs trying to make a better home for me and my daughter?" I asked and Kentrell stayed quiet.
"You wanted to know the truth? Yes she's your daughter but you would've known if you would've just picked up the phone and called!" I argued before rubbing my hand down the side of my face.
"You sure she's mine?"
"Kentrell I found out I was pregnant the same month I was only having sex with you. Her birthday is in June, Do the math" I said trying to calm myself down. "Why-"
"Please don't ask me no dumb fucking questions like why didn't I call" I said before sitting beside him on the couch.
"Lani I ain't got no kids....I don't even know how to raise a kid"
"I'm not asking you to raise her Kentrell. That's what I've been doing for four years now"
"Ok Kailani well how was I supposed to know? You ain't at least try to call or text. The last words you said to me was 'I hate you never talk to me again' so I gave you that space you needed"
"I didn't need space I needed you!" My voice cracked and Kentrell tried to grab my hand but I stood up shaking my head.
"You know now, so you're either gonna be there for her or don't be around at all" I shrugged and Kentrell pulled out his phone.
"Put your number in" he mumbled and I put my number in his phone before giving it back to him. "I'll call" he said and I opened the front door before he walked out and I shut the door.
I was honestly trying so hard not to cry. I've been through a lot these past four years and I didn't have much help so for him to sit in my face and look at me like raising Desire at SEVENTEEN was easy really pissed me off.
Flashback Four years ago - Baton Rouge Louisiana
Kailani walked out of her new apartment. It wasn't in the ghetto but it wasn't in the nicest neighborhood. Her cousin Meghan would come visit sometimes but she was busy getting ready for college.
Kailani use to have a plan for her life. It involved going to college and becoming a lawyer but that wasn't happening any time soon.
Kailani rubbed her belly feeling sick and she knew she needed something to eat. She decided to walk to the closest McDonalds.
She never carried her purse outside where she lived in the fear of getting robbed. She always carried her money in her front Jean pockets.
Once Kailani got her food she noticed that her clothes were becoming too small from the baby weight she had gained. She counted the money she had left and it was only ten dollars.
"Where am I gonna find decent clothes with ten dollars?" She mumbled to herself before putting her money away. She figured she was gonna have to keep wearing the same too small clothes until they didn't fit over her head anymore.
As much as Kailani hated to admit it, she missed her mom. She was use to coming home and seeing her mother's face. Now she doesn't know where her mother is or what she's doing. Besides her mother Kailani missed Kentrell the most. Even if they weren't dating, right now he would probably be telling her that everything would be fine and she's the strongest person he knows...but he's not there for her, and that hurt her more than her mother putting her out.
Kailani walked back home and sighed as she opened her apartment door and let out a light scream when she saw a mouse run out of her living room as she walked in. She closed the front door and tears started to fall down her face as she looked up. "God....why me?" She questioned.
She didn't understand what she did to deserve this. Kailani always made good grades and wasn't a bad child, so why was this her punishment?
Whatever the reason being, Kailani couldn't focus on it long because winter was approaching and the only winter clothes she had that fit were two pairs of jeans and two over sized hoodies.
Flashback over
I went back to my room and sucked my teeth since I couldn't go back to sleep. "Fuck you Kentrell" I mumbled under my breath.
I decided to watch some tv before making Desire and I some breakfast. I had got a text from a unknown number said 'it's Kentrell' and I rolled my eyes.
I use to want him here and now he's being a pain in my ass.
