Looking at a football field with around 30 hormonal men blazing through the cut grass with the means to attack each other, is almost like watching a huge pool of bloodthirsty, uncontrollable sharks biting into whatever piece of meat they can salvage on.
As the tension rises with everyone coming out of their locker room with their head-to-toe gear on, marching out battle-ready, you can immediately spot the division of anarchies amongst the boys. There were those who stand loyal next to their captain, a strong scowl adamant on their visuals. And there's the light-hearted ones, as buoyant as the hot weather today, exchanging pats on the back and handshakes with Uriah, beaming at his sudden return, including Ollian.
Kelliana sits at the front bleaches with an all-time, non-stopping fast heart rate, agitated at what to expect out of today. Surely, she expects a little cold shoulder or insults here and there. But seeing it in front of her eyes up close, the amount of hatred, loathing and resentment the both of them emanated for each other made her toes curl in angst.
She knew bits and pieces about Uriah when she would come to Dean's football practices in the past, just a fleeting boy who didn't pike her interests enough to get to know him. Just your typical womanizing bad boy who wears leather and piercings.
That's when the stirring thought occurs in her mind that there is more. Much more. Did she want to dive deeper? Here are two men, ones whom she has let come closer to her than any other man in her life, feeding off of each others raw emotions and past grudges. This had nothing to do with her but them. She knows that much. And she should only know that much. For now.
Coach Malik's booming voice erupts in the air as the screeching whistle comes afterwards, the boys dispersing into their assigned drills and warm up sections for the next 10 minutes.
Time ticks by fast as the whistle comes again, led by coach's instructions of splitting the boys into two teams of 11, with some boys coming to sit at the bench near Kelliana.
As the two teams go in their respective zones on opposite ends, as expected Uriah and Dean were on opposing teams. Coach Malik calls both of them to the centre and does the classic coin toss.
"Heads", Dean says as he glares at Uriah through his helmet.
"Tails", is his obvious response and coach nods, then tosses the coin into the air and smoothly lands it on his hand to reveal the heads, in which Dean smirks.
"What's your pick, Duddson?"
"I'll take defense."
Quick on their feet, coach yells out to them that they're doing only a quarter match just to test out Uriah's gameplay as he instructs the boys on the bench to assess him. Everyone got the memo, knowing what to do.
As coach stands to the side with the two teams in their formation, their fingers gripping the grass in their crouched positions, he blows the whistle as it rips through the air.
The gameplay begins with Uriah's team rushing into their offense strategy, where he gains the ball in his hand under his player. Cradling the ball, not even half a yard did he sprint when Dean comes out of nowhere from the opposite side, tackling him roughly to the ground as their bodies harshly collided to the ground, seeing his head bounce from the impact of his thrust.
Kelliana winces as she sees them halt their gameplay, with Uriah shoving Dean off of him and coach using his whistle once again as his signal of communication.
