You stare into her grey eyes. She stares into yours. Not a word passes your lips, not until she speaks. But she is just as stubborn as you are. It's been silent for minutes on end. Eventually you sigh, shake your head and stand up. You lean on the table with both hands, never having broken eye contact. "Fine, I give up." You say softly. "But I will keep doing this, wether you decide to eventually comply or not." You say as you turn around and walk towards the door.
"That's exactly why I'm not complying." Yelena says with a smirk and a voice smooth as silk. "That way I get to see you occasionally. If I comply you won't come to visit me anymore." She says. You groan and knock on the door, signaling for the people waiting outside to let you out. The door unlocks and opens and you step outside. "Same time next week?" Yelena asks right before the door closes behind you. You groan and ball your fists. This is starting to become infuriating.
After some time you arrive back at headquarters, feeling tired and hungry. You're dying to get your hands on some dinner. Hopefully the others took you into account and saved some for you. Going into the kitchen, you're met by the sight of Armin cleaning the last plate and stacking it on top of all the others. "Oh come on..." You mutter. Armin slightly turns his head towards you and looks at you for a moment. "Don't tell me there's nothing left?" You carefully ask. Armin gestures at the table behind him, there stands a plate of potatoes, green beans and meat. "Thank fuck...!" You say as you quickly walk over to the table to scoff it all down.
Armin sighs and leans against the sink. "Language (y/n), please." He says softly. "How did it go? Did she tell you anything?" Armin asks. You shake your head as you chew on a big bite of meat. Armin sighs. "At this point I'm starting to think this whole thing is hopeless..." He says.
"I'm frustrated too, believe me. It's not like I go there every week for my own pleasure." You say softly before having another bite. After slowly chewing and swallowing you sigh. "She clearly has interest in me and I understand that's why Hanji assigned this role to me. But I don't think it's getting us anywhere, she's not going to tell me anything." You say softly. You turn to Armin and look at him with tired eyes. "I'm growing tired of this song and dance."
A few days later you find yourself on the training grounds, practicing your aim by shooting at small targets at a distance. Just as you are about to pull the trigger, you hear someone yelling your name. "(Y/n)!" Shocked by the sudden loud voice from behind you, you turn around and aim the rifle at the person yelling your name. They react shocked and put their hands up in the air.
You sigh and lower your rifle. "Floch, unless you want a bullet through your ugly face, I suggest you don't startle me while I'm using a fucking fire weapon!" You say, feeling slightly annoyed. With another sigh you throw your rifle to the side. "What do you need from me?" You ask.
"Commander Hanji asked for you. She's waiting for you in her office." Floch says. You have the unnerving feeling that this is about her plan to have you gather information from Yelena. Hopefully she'll say that you are no longer needed for that role. But that may just be wishful thinking. "Well, don't keep her waiting. Go." Floch says. You roll your eyes and walk past the annoying redhead.
Once you arrive at Hanji's office you knock on the door. "Commander, you wanted to see me?" You ask politely. You don't hear anything on the other side of the door. Carefully you open it and look inside. Hanji is sitting at her desk and frantically reads a piece of paper. The atmosphere in the room is noticably tense. You step inside. "What's going on?" You carefully ask as you sit down on the other side of the desk.
Hanji looks up at you, the light pouring in through the window flickers in her glasses for a moment as she does this. "We recieved a letter from Yelena. She is willing to finally speak up, under one condition..." Hanji says softly. You hold your breath. You knew this must have had something to do with Yelena, but you didn't expect this. You listen carefully to every word Hanji says. "She wants to have dinner with you. Only then will she speak." Hanji says. You raise an eyebrow, confused and surprised by her words. Hanji sighs. "I have no idea why. It's an odd request. I suspect that she's planning something. But I can't figure out what that could potentially be." Hanji says as she hands you the letter.
