It's been about a week, I only ever hung out with Charlotte and my brother, along with his friends. His friends were honestly annoying, they would just consistently torment innocent kids for entertainment.
I hated lunch time the most, they enjoyed throwing food and pouring milk on kids. These guys are egotistical maniacs. Charlotte & I just sat back and watched everything happen. I mean that's what her and Jacky use to do, before Jacky turned on us. I was the one who enjoyed tormenting kids too, but those days are long gone.
I didn't eat, all I did was play with my food using the plastic spork the school provided. "Hey Rowan." My brother sat down in front of me as he was laughing.
I looked up at him with an unamused look, "What?" I shot at him with attitude.
"Since you're not eating, why don't you get your food and dump it on your backstabbing bitch of a friend?" He suggested with hope on his face.
"Are you talking about Jacky?" I raised an eyebrow trying to clarify.
"Yeah." He nodded, "And if not Jacky, I'm sure you wouldn't mind doing it to Rodriguez."
I shook my head, "I'm not doing that."
"Why the hell not?!" My brother immediately grew defensive at the fact I didn't do what he wanted.
I stood up, leaving my trey on the table. I was getting ready to leave the cafeteria to just head to my next class, but my brother stood in front of me. I rolled my eyes, "I'm not your little puppet Jordan! I don't have to do everything you want me to do!" I finally decided to stick up for myself.
Jordan looked at me as if I was pathetic, "You kinda do, did you forget about dad?"
"I'm done worrying about that! You guys are practically torturing and traumatizing innocent kids just because you think it's funny!" I began to yell, "And if you seriously think that I'm going to continue being immature as hell, you can go fuck yourself!"
"What did you just say?"
"Are you deaf?! I'm done being your puppet! And I genuinely do not care about dad! So tell him what you want!" I shoved my brother and began to walk off.
I barely realized the whole cafeteria was starring at me. I felt so embarrassed, but proud because I finally brought myself to do what I should've done a long time ago.
I pushed on the latch that opened the cafeteria doors and walked out. I honestly am just gonna leave school, I didn't have any usage to be here any longer.
I ran outside of the school, into my neighborhood. Feeling the warm breeze against my face as I ran down each street. I went past my house and eventually Benny's. I found the fence that led into the sandlot and I went inside.
It felt good to be back here. Even though none of the boys were here, and I'd get bashed on for being here as well.
I ran to the dugout, then grabbed the bat and the ball that they played with. I went over to the batter's box, threw the ball in the air and swung the bat. Hitting the ball, it went far over. It slammed itself against the green fence and bounced off slightly.
I ran over there and grabbed it again. Even if I wasn't genuinely playing baseball, at least this was stress relieving.
I stayed there for a long time, doing small things to keep myself entertained. I'd throw the ball against the fence and catch it with my glove. I'd throw the ball in the air and hit it with the bat, then eventually run to go retrieve it. There's not much you could do with only one person.
I just wished everything would go back to normal, but I need to accept the fact that everything that happened, I have no control over.
Ditching school to play baseball alone in a sandlot that mainly the boys that now hated you play at, probably isn't the smartest idea. Considering there's no clock here so there's no way for me to keep track of the time I'm spending.
I threw the ball slightly in the air again, I whacked the bat and...crack. The ball went flying, I watched the ball fly over and hit someone who was by the entrance.
"Holy shit!" I ran over to the kid and it was Scotty. I put my arm out to help him up, he was holding onto his stomach which is where he got hurt.
"I'm so sorry man." I began, "Are you alright?"
"Yeah." He winced at the pain, "I'm still alive." He tried to stand up properly, once he finally got over it, he sighed, "Benny told me what happened between you guys."
I nodded, "I should probably go, sorry to bother." I handed Scotty the glove that Benny gave me a while ago, "Give that back to Benny for me." I smiled and was getting ready to walk off.
"Wait!" He yelled. I turned back around to listen to him, "I don't hate you though, I know it must've been a misunderstanding. You're a really nice person."
I half smiled at Scotty, "Thanks Smalls. Misunderstanding or not, it's all over now."
"Maybe I could try to convince Benny to talk to you." He suggested.
"There's no use, I appreciate it though." I finally got to walk off, and not too far down the street were Benny and the whole group. I decided to cross the street just to avoid running into them.
