CHAPTER 11

I heard a knock on my bedroom door and was too taken aback to answer it. The door knocked several times before I shook myself out of my shocked state and said sweetly, "Who is it?"

"Can I come in honey? It's just me. Sorry I'm a bit late. I had to mark my class' spelling test and grade them. I want to talk to you about before." My mum shouted through the door.

"Yeah come in and start explaining. Why didn't you tell me?"

The door swung open and mum walked in with a guilty look on her pretty face. She sat down next to me and I got up abruptly, surprising her because she jumped.

I sat down on my bed cross legged and looked at her. After what Jye had told me, I wasn't exactly in the mood to hear another overwhelming explanation, but seeing as it was mum; I shut my mouth and let her talk.

"Your father and I were madly in love when we were teenagers. He was my first love and I his. We did everything together and rarely did anything alone. I met him in my last year as a senior because he had just moved from Australia.

"Our first few dates were really weird because we didn't really know each other. Then, on our fifth date, I told him almost everything about me. At school the next day, he told me everything about him-including the fact he was a psychic.

"I didn't have anything against him. The fact that he was a psychic made me fall in harder for him than I ever thought was possible." She paused, a regretful smile spread across her face.

I had never heard of anything about my father before this talk. I heard myself saying something that I really didn't mean too. "What kind of psychic was he?" I said looking at the side of her face.

"He was a hereafter soothsayer. He saw the past and future in his dreams." Just like Jye. They say the guy who you fall in love with will be like your dad and you will be like their mum. How ironic. Said that voice in my head.

"By the time we had finished our senior year, we had become... sexually active. He had said that if a psychic and normal person fell in love and had a baby; their child would be the first psychic of their kind in millennia and wouldn't manifest their powers until they made a major move; just like we did. He had said that their powers could be taken from them if the wrong person knew about it. He never told me what they had to do in order to take the powers from its owner, but the consequences were life threatening.

"In most cases, they would go into a coma and die afterwoods, but if they had fallen in love with another psychic, the person they had fallen for would know what to do.

"For about a week I didn't take the pill because there weren't any left and I refused to have sex with your father. He knew what would happen but went for it anyway. I told him the consequences but he said he didn't care because he was with the person he loved and would never leave no matter what.

"Thinking back on it now, I think it was just an excuse because he wanted me-bad. When my period didn't come on the twenty-eighth day, I waited. I thought it'd come on the thirtieth day or thirty-first. I didn't care; I just wanted it to come. On day thirty-five, I gave up and bought a pack of pregnancy tests at the chemist. The first one came up positive. So did the second-and third. I was scared. I freaked out and squealed. That's when I heard a door shut. I walked out of the bathroom-the one at our house in America-and found a note on the table. I ran upstairs and opened the cupboard. His clothes and shoes where all gone. I ran back down and read the note. It said 'had a dream. Knew what would happen. Sorry baby but I'm not ready for this. It's over.'
