Chapter 6.

AYDEN was calling my name as I was running for the oval.

"Ariana! Stop! Ariana! What happened?" He called. Both of us knew he'd catch up to me in no time-- he was a fast runner.

Before I knew it, he was by my side, telling me to calm down and to stop crying.

"Hey, what happened in there Ree? You scared the crap outta me." He was rubbing my back and listening to my sniffles before I told him what happened.

When I looked up into his eyes, I saw him old and wrinkled at a hospital, Nina nearby, waiting for him to wake up. That was when the machine stopped and made a long beeping noise.

That did it. I burst into tears and sat on the silver bench on the side of the office. Ayden sat down, put an arm around me and got out his phone. He was going to text Nina.

"No, please don't send that text," I said in between sobs. "I don't want to see anymore."

"See anymore what Ree? You can tell me. I don't like seeing  you cry like this. I don't know what to do. If you tell me what's going on then maybe I'll know." He said putting his phone away.

"When I looked into Mr Gray's eyes-" I took a deep breath and tried to stop crying. "I saw him die, so I ran away. I was so scared that I would see the same thing in you Ayden, that was why I kept running, then you caught up to me..." I saw him flinch. I said the whole sentence without a single sob, but when I said the next one, I broke on the word die and burst into a hurricane of tears. "And when I looked up into your eyes, I saw how you died." I broke so hard on the word die; I thought that I might as well have.

He looked at me shocked. I didn't know what to do. The second time I looked up into his eyes, I didn't see anything. I thought I would have seen it over again, but I didn't. Maybe it was a trick.

A guy I recognised from bio looked at me and said, "Hey, you're Ariana right? Nice going in bio, 'bout time someone told that bitch off. I'm Jayden by the way." I didn't want to look up into his eyes, so I looked at his mouth instead. Jayden had a really cute smile.

"Thanks, nice to meet you Jayden." I said. It was then that I realised the seat next to me was empty. I looked around for Ayden and saw him running toward the girls. Great, just what I needed.

"Hey, what's wrong? Why are you crying? It wasn't me was it?" I just met him but he was talking to me like we were old friends. His smile vanished and instead turned into a straight line of concern.

"It wasn't you. Don't worry about me though, it's nothing." I said and wiped my nose.

"Are you sure?"

"Yup, i'm fine." I said looking away.

"You're not fine. Do you want to tell me what's wrong?" He asked gently. He was sweet, and I wanted so badly to confide in him, but I didn't know how he'd react.

Instead of turning him down, I told him what was wrong and we had a nice chat, with me staring at his mouth the whole time. Before I started talking, he asked me if I wanted to kiss him which made me laugh, especially because I kept looking at his mouth. He had a really cute and quirky personality. He made me feel better and eventually I stopped crying.

When he left, I kept thinking about how Ayden and Nina were going to live together forever. I was thinking about whether or not I should tell Ayden what I saw, about how I'd have to avoid looking into people's eyes for the rest of my life. That was when I saw him and the girls standing in front of me.

"Ayden told me what happened; did you want to talk about it?" Nina said sitting down next to me.

"No, I don't want to talk about it. I just want to go back to being normal. I'm fine with normal but I know that everyday I'm getting further away from being normal and this entire thing... I just want to go home." I said trying not to start crying all over again. Luckily I didn't because I knew that if I did, I wouldn't have stopped.
