Sticker Freckled Faces

Spending time with you

Is so fun

It's relieving

I can finally be myself

When I'm around you

You're not like

The other girls

As cliché

As that sounds

I'm not sure why exactly

You hang with that gaggle of girls

Because when you're around me

I can hear you let out a sigh of relief

That you can put away that mask

And finally be yourself

Spending time together

Means we can be ourselves

Our genuine goofy selves

We cover each other's faces with cheap stickers

Smiley faces

Rainbows

Kittens

Strawberries

All sorts of things

That come in bundles of hundreds at the dollar store

We can slap together

The crappiest finger painting in existence

Without risk of judgement

Doesn't matter who we are at school

How old we are

How mature our teachers praise us for

How we try to appeal to the popular kids

What matters is

Who we are

When we're with each other

When we're finally our true selves

With our sticker freckled faces

And paint stained hands

Together

We end up with dirt all over our clothes

Laughing, despite we know how our mother's will scold us

We scrape our knees

And bruise our arms

Trying out bike tricks

That we'll be told are just for boys

It doesn't matter

Because it's just you and I

Being ourselves

It doesn't matter what this town tells us

Just promise me that you'll stay you

And I'll promise that I'll stay me

We'll make our pact

As we decorate each other

With stickers galore
