Tijuana, Mexico
"How do you feel?"
"Like shit."
"I'll take you to the hospital."
"No, not necessary."
"What do you mean? You were in a car accident. You need to be checked up."
Leon urges behind the wheel after they made it across the border.
When Leon reaches the little Del Prado clinic, he enters the hospital with Letty in his arms.
"Hello, we need a doctor. My friend had an accident..."
"Puede decirnos què pasó?"
"What?"
"We're in Mexico, Leon. "
Letty reminds him, still in his arms.
"What does accident mean in Spanish?"
"Let me do it.....Tuve un accidente."
"Seguidme."
"Follow her."
Letty translates and he does as he's told. The nurse opens a door and asks her to free her upper body for the checkup.
"Okay, I better wait outside."
"Thanks."A few minutes pass before the door opens and the mechanic walks out.
"You okay?"
Leon asks worried when he approaches Letty.
"Yeah, just two bruised ribs and a whiplash."The friends leave the hospital after she received a prescription for her medication from the nurse.
"What now?"
Letty asks on the way to Leon's car.
"Don't know. We should look for a place to stay first."
She agrees with a nod and it only takes a few minutes for the two to find what they are looking for. After Leon has paid the receptionist of the old motel, he carries his friend up to the room.
"Take a rest. I'm gonna get some things."
"Okay."
She mumbles.
He puts her on the bed and covers her up a bit.
"Dom..."
Are her last words before her tired eyes close."Don't be scared. It's me, Let."
Leon reassures his friend, who has woken up to the sounds of his return.
"I got us some burgers and your medication. Eat something first before taking them."
He advises and in addition to the things mentioned, gives her an ice pack that he has wrapped in a towel.
"Put that on your ribs."
He continues and the Latina follows his instructions."What should we do now?"
She asks when the two have finished eating and Leon has sat down on the chair next to her bed.
"No idea, but there's no going back."
"I know."
"You have family here, huh?"
"Yeah."
"You should go to them."
"And you?"
"Don't know. Don't think I'll stay in this country."
"Where then?"
"I always wanted to go to South Africa."
"It's really nice there."
Leon nods with a smile.
"But first I'm gonna take care of you."
"You don't have to, really."
"But I will. Now shut up and take your pills."
He asks with a laugh."Oh God, Dom! Are you okay?"
Mia asks her brother in panic when he arrives late at night in the driveway of their house with wounds on his face.
"Yes."
Dom goes straight into the house, up in his room, while Mia follows him.
"What are you doing?"
"I have to go."
He replies and opens a safe that he has hidden in his closet.
"What about me?"
"Mia, I can't take you with me."
Dom explains while he's putting a few wads of money in his gym bag and hands the rest to Mia.
"Jesse's dead."
She informs her older brother in tears and gets hugged by him.
"I don't have much time. Be careful, okay."
"How can I find you?"
"I'll call you when I'm safe."
After another short hug, Dom leaves the house and gets into Mia's Acura Integra. When Dom arrives in Mexico, he trades his vehicle for a black and red Chevrolet Chevelle and drives across the country without a real destination in mind.
So many thoughts go through his head. How's Vince? Can Mia make it without him? Is Letty okay? It's hard not to have her around him. But he has to stay away from Letty to protect her, just like Mia. All that bullshit happened because of him. Because he couldn't stop, because he preferred to follow the money instead of saving his friend. Because instead of listening to his best friend, he trusted a stranger, believed a cop. He destroyed everything and it's better for everyone when he stays away from them.1 week later
Now that Letty's health has improved, Leon is determined to move on.
"Alright, babygirl. Time to say goodbye...Take care, okay?"
"You too. Thank you...For everything."
After an emotional hug, Leon gets into his new car and drives away.
Letty also leaves the city shortly afterwards to visit her uncle in Cancun. She withdraws $2,500 from a bank and uses the money to buy a car at a dealership not far from the motel.
Her cash is enough for a black '73 AMC Javelin and so the racer makes her way to the south of the country.
