Daniel's POV

~Present Time~

"Why and how, was Athena here?!" I shouted
"Who's idea was it to bring her here?!" I shouted at my men all lined up in an arch before me
"Ahh!" I growled in frustration, slamming my hands on my table, when it crossed my mind-
"Where's Claudius?" I asked

"He's out Boss"

"I'll ask you again" I said, after a long silence, "If you were in on Claudius's smart plan of bringing Athena to the ball, step forward, or I swear to you, you know all too well what I'm capable of, it won't be hard to replace either one of you" I said, clenching my fists on the table.

"It was my idea Boss!" someone shouted

I turned and saw Lucas, standing in the front. I walked towards him, so ready to beat his soul out of his body, but stopped.

"Why?" I groaned

"For your protection Boss" he said

"'My protection'? Lucas, I don't think you're fully aware of your position here. You're my work hand, my guard, not my mother"

"With all due respect Boss, but by killing Frederick, you just put a whole bounty on your head. And showcasing it, just let them get closer. You showcased what you got back from Frederick and invited all your rivals to see it, for all we know, someone at the party was already planning on taking you out, and after seeing your wealth and status, they might have gotten more motivated to do so" he said

"And that's why you're the lap dog and I'm the Boss. I won't cower in a corner. I'm far from a coward, and miles away from weak" I shouted
"And let's say your theory is true, that's why I hired you, to prevent my assassination, and if it does happen, put a bullet through your heart on my behalf will you, that way, you can be with me in the after life, maybe there you'll do a better job. Understood?"

"Yes Boss"

"Let this be the last time you'll get Athena involved. If anything happens to her, I'll put you six feet under the ground first" I threatened, walking away

I was so angry at my men for bringing Athena there. I wasn't sure how she'd react to seeing me after what she saw. I couldn't lose her, I just couldn't.

Athena's POV
"Are you alright?" Claudius asked
"I'm sorry for dragging you into this Athena"
"I can, take you home"

"No no!" I blurted out, after not responding to anything he previously said, "I'm sorry, I just, don't know what to say"

"I understand"

"Claudius" I called

"Yes Athena"

"Can we not, go home just yet, I really need to clear my head"

"As you wish"

He drove for about an hour to a remote park. We got off and stepping on the ground, I felt tears run down my face. I stared into the dark of night and heard the gun shots echoing in my ears. I cupped my ears hoping not to hear anything, falling to my knees, when I felt Claudius hold me up. He helped me up and gently placed me on the bench.

"Why is he like that Claudius?" I asked, wiping my tears and sniffling slightly
"I mean, you know him better than I do right, so why is he so.... I don't even know what words to best describe him" I said, frustrated

"Athena, I'm sure he told you how he found himself in this world, and I'm sure you understand where he's coming from"

"That's the point Claudius! I don't know where he's coming from!"
"I thought I knew him, I really thought, I could change his ways. He was so willing to change, for me, but now, I look at him and feel so hopeless"
