"No you don't!  I will not let you leave without knowing who it is that proposed to you?" He growled in my ear threateningly making my knees fall weak. I guessed I must be unusually sensitive in the vicinity of my ears. Just the pant of his hot breath against my ear sent a shiver down my spine.  The sound of his voice and the heavy emotions within made me tremble. It didn't seem to matter that what he was saying was nothing nice

or that his emotions that reigned was nothing pleasant towards me. The man was just sadly that hot.

I tried to wrench the door open but his hands were flat against it... on either side of my head... effectively caging me in.

I refused to turn to face him and even more, I refused to answer him.

"I will find out regardless you know. One way or the other.  I have my sources and then there is nothing to stop me from buying him off too," he said quietly.  His softly spoken words echoed more menacingly down my spine.

I could see it happening.  I could see Brett caving in to Mark without question.  Brett was just the sort to chase money more than skirts. Not that he had to chase skirts... or money for that matter.  Both seem to fall into his lap of their own accord.

My suspicions were roused.

I turned to face Mark. "His name is Brett  Williams.  He is a lawyer by profession,"  I said and felt my heart sank as I watched the instant recognition lit across his face.

I sighed heavily and said, " How do you know him?"

"His father was my uncle's lawyer. Brett has been handling the legalese from that end," said Mark with a renewed upsurgance of anger. One directed at the most deserving target.

Brett must have found out about me working for Mark and knew of his intentions.

"Is there a loop hole. If you don't marry by the desired age what then?" I asked looking straight at him.

I watched his face harden with distaste. " Then the money goes into a trust. A trust set up for charities.  A trust that would continue to be managed by Brett Williams and his firm."

I stared at him in horror.

I have been played by a maestro on all counts. Brett, Mark and Ron. All had been only after the money.  I was merely incidental.

The hurt I felt that my inconsequential self was even more worthless then I assumed was brought clear to me today. I had only one value and that in the untouched space between my legs.

The urge I had to stick my own finger in and do the deed was at once overwhelming and incredible.  It also must have shown on my face for Mark was quick to grasp my hands in his and raise them high above my head.

" Never! Never will I let you escape or take away what is mine.  That billions is mine. Make no mistake that I won't do anything it takes to get a hold of it. To make it all mine. Sign the damn contract! "

My eyes watered from the bottled up hurt and the inevitable future I suddenly realised I was as ill equipped to avoid as I was to handle.  But that didn't stop me from one last try.

" Find someone else. Someone willing.  Please...," I pleaded with Mark.

"Don't worry when the time comes.  You will be willing.  And there is no one else. Not for me.  Not any longer.  I had decided on you from the very first time I met you. Your innocence was clear to see. You were as unaffected by my wealth as you were unimpressed by me as a man. I knew right then that it had to be you and that won't change now. Not even if you begged me to."

He dropped his head till his green eyes were on a level with mine.

"I won't release you."
