"I don't want the house," he said finally when he managed to regain some semblance of control over his laughter.
"Not want the house! What am I doing here then? You said on the phone, you wanted the house, I took off from work to come all the way accross town to see you about it and now you say you don't want it. You could have called me on the phone an cancelled like any decent human being would have done, " I fairly screamed at him.
Anger was good, I had well and truely lost the urge to jump his bones of course that urge had been missing when he had been doubled over in laughter as well. Mortification it seemed, worked as well as anger.
I got to my feet, grabbed at my hand bag feeling vastly disappointed on so many counts, I knew not where to begin.
Just as I was about to stride to the door, I felt a hand close on my shoulder and I was spun around.
"God you are a feisty one. Settle down will you. I am not buying but my brother is keen," said Brett as he gazed down at me with his usual irritating smirk still very much in evidence.
I was not about to fall for this a second time. Brett would not have the last laugh at my expense.
"What brother? You don't have any! Incase you've forgotten, dearie, you are the only child!" I gared up at him mockingly. Take that, you ass.
"He is my step brother. I never did tell anyone back then but dad remarried almost as soon as he walked out on mum and I. When dad died a couple of years back, Josh came over to introduce himself to us. Surprisingly, we got on well, after the expected rocky start, we bonded, we had a lot in common," he said with a shrug.
"Chasing skirts no doubt," I muttered under my breath but I think he still heard for he let out a little chuckle before he ignored my comment to continue,"When he heard you were selling, he asked me to work out a good deal for him, so I called you to make an offer."
I grudgingly, turned to take my seat again and he shifted to lean back against his desk this time closer to me.
"So what are you offering?" I asked straight to the point.
"I'm not offering anything," he said then raised a placating hand up to quiet my gumption over that before he leaned down to continue, "Not before I see the place first, that house has been abandoned for well over six months. Mum was saying over the phone the other day that she heared some noises in the house. Now it could have been vandals or possums or anything, no matter, I cannot make an offer without an inspection."
"Fine!" I said grumpily, "When do you want to see it?"
"I'd be happy to go over with you tonight if you like but if you'd be willing to wait till this weekend for a quote I'd really like for Josh to join us for a tour and he'd be able to fly down for it then," he said.
Great, why take one when if you wait you can get two.
