I found myself formally engaged to my boss Mark just shortly after. It was not as unpleasant an experience as I had been expecting it would be. No I found I took great satisfaction in seeing the expression of all those vindictive females that I call my co-workers. The very fact that they somehow managed to wheedle their way into an annual invite for this here party was enough for me to intentially snub them when they reluctantly came about to wish me their fake congratulations. I faked a grimace of pleasure while they oogled and gaped at my huge diamond engagement ring that Mark had so recently bestowed on my finger with a grand gesture that he pulled of with his usual flare. I was sure that alone if nothing else had the arsenal to turn my work colleagues green with envy.
Of Ron I saw little. He seemed to have disappeared in the crowd. I wasn't even sure he was still around. Mark drove me home later. I thought it might get a little awkward but it hadn't I was relatively pleased with the turn of events. Except of course the missing Ron.
I shook my head in despair. He couldn't possibly have kissed and run. But all indications were pointing to just that. I dug out my ipone not willing to hit the sack before I spoke with Ron.
Where Are You?
The phone remained dead. I suddenly felt on the verge of tears. I moved about in a zombie state of mind performing my nightly routines before finally after one last glance at my messages going to bed.
I slept the deep sleep of the dead and was as reluctant to wake up the next morning. I drag myself out of bed with the same gloom and doom that I had gone to bed
in. The very first thing I did was check my messages. I was surprised to note a message from my fiance.
Sleep tight my beauty. Dream of me.
I smiled a little for I really found it funny.
From Ron there was nothing.
I reluctantly got ready for the day ahead. I was suposed to head down to the house with Josh and his inspector. So not fun.
I decide simply slim jeans and a soft white cotton button down was the right clothes for the day. I slipped on my more attractive trainers, grabbed my hot sunnies and then spoiled the whole effect by carting my precious hand bag with me. My baby. Muah!
Nuts I know. I tittered about uncertainly examining my image in the mirror.
By then Josh was there honking his horn. So I ran out to meet him and saw Brett sitting in the drivers seat. I sighed. As if the day hadn't begun bad enough. I threw him a reluctant smile and sat down beside him. I threw a scowling look at the back seat even as I did this. As far as I could see there was no reason for Jish to take the back seat and dump me out front with Brett of all people.
