Chapter 4
I sighed and took a seat in the back knowing the bell was about to ring. The last thing I needed was to owe this guy. As if on cue the bell rang and clusters of teens rushed in and took their seats, one of which was Jeremy who decided to sit right next to me.
There are intruders Jeremy sent me telepathically. I looked at him confused.
What do you mean by intruders? I enquired. Like ones from the dark side? He shook his head at me.
Worse; Humans. I stiffened at the word. What does he mean by humans? What were humans doing at Green Pastures high? How did they even get into town? Aren’t we secluded or something? I’m definitely going to have one long talk with dad when I get home.
Impossible. I stated shaking my head. Daddy, would never let this happen.
Well, daddy, obviously forgot to mention it to his golden child. God, I can still smell them on me. He shuddered. I wonder how they smell. After all, I have never met one.
Don’t be so mean! I scowled in my head. Honestly, they just seem like us on television but they can’t turn into wolves.... They’re not that different, are they? I heard a cough from the front of my table and my neck snapped up and I growled to see that it was Mr. Arley. I growled at him menacingly, making sure that only us two and Jeremy could hear.
“Ms. Sanchez, would you care to tell us-” I put my hand up for him to stop talking and he did. That felt good!
“Mr. Arley. Save yourself the embarrassment of trying to embarrass me and go back to teaching. We wouldn’t want a repeat of yesterday now, do we?” I smiled at him innocently and he looked taken aback. He was about to respond when the door opened and a weird smell intoxicated the lab.
I looked up at the door and locked eyes with the most exotic boy I have ever seen. Exotic meaning different; most wolves are exotic. My eyes glistened as I stared at him but there was something off about him. There was something off about the two girls standing behind him as well. I looked over at my brother who was grimacing at them and then it clicked. They were the humans.
I glanced around the classroom and saw that every other student was glowering at them apart from me. I blinked in confusion. What’s so wrong about them? I just don’t get it. I sighed inwardly and gave them a smile. They looked stunned at the sudden pleasantness and I felt guilty of how my pack was treating them. They slowly smiled back but looked away.
“Ah, you must be the Alexander trio.” Mr. Arley spat. I was surprised at the hate that was in his voice. I can’t get my head around how awful these kids were being treated. It’s not their fault, they weren’t born werewolves and it wasn’t our choice to become a werewolf either. They nodded and Mr. Arley tensed. “Well, take your seat, anywhere away from me...” He mumbled and went to the furthest parts of the classroom. I rolled my eyes. Sometimes, werewolves need to get over themselves and realise that they are no better than the rest of the world. We probably make up about 2% of it anyways. They took their seats near me and Jeremy and I felt him stiffen beside me.
If I have to sigh this much, I’m pretty sure that I would be losing a lot of oxygen. It’s only first period and I have sighed about 10 times.
Do you want to swap seats? I asked him, knowing how uncomfortable he was and the best thing for him was to sit in my seat in the corner. He nodded and we slowly shifted until we had swapped seats. I looked towards the ‘Alexander trio’ and smiled politely again.
“Hi, I’m Melissa.” I whispered, giving out my hand to the boy of the trio, waiting for him to shake it. He hesitated before he did.
“I’m Brent.” He whispered back with a tight smile and then turned back to Mr. Arley. I nodded; he obviously didn’t want Mr. Arley hating them more than he did already. Sheesh, Mr. Arley is in fact a jerk. Since, he is a teacher, isn’t he supposed to be neutral? “I know right?” Said a whisper to my left. I shot my head towards Brent. I gave him a questioning look. He scribbled on his paper and showed it to me.
I’m telepathic.
I stared at him, shocked. He is telepathic? That means he might already know that... I looked at him and he nodded tightly as he shifted in his seat. Don’t worry, my sister’s aren’t telepathic and they don’t know about you guys being... you know... I exhaled noisily and Mr. Arley glanced in my direction. His eyebrows scrunched together in confusion.
“Melissa, why did you and Jeremy switch places?” he asked. I shrugged.
“Oh, I just wanted a change, I guess...” I trailed off for a bit. I looked down and the back up to see Mr. Arley’s gaze switch between mine and Brent’s as we stared back at him in mock naivety. Something flashed between his eyes and I saw jealousy...
Yup, he is so jealous of me right now. A voice said popping into my head, consequently making me jump. Mr. Arley still looked at us and his gaze went down to make sure that Brent hadn’t touched me but he hadn’t because his hands were firmly holding his pen and notepad.
You need to stop doing that! I hissed mentally and I turned to see Brent smirking. I rolled my eyes at him.
Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you. I know you’re Alpha too. He said openly, I choked on my own spit. This boy never ceases to amaze me.
But, how? Wait, one good darn minute. How are you even talking to me? I get it you’re telepathic but how am I getting you’re thoughts? I questioned.
Easy, it’s the reason I know you’re Alpha. It’s because you’re talking to me. If you wasn’t I’d just be reading your mind but Alpha’s have a strong connection with other Supernaturals as well.
But that’s where you’re wrong. I threw in his face. I’m only Beta. I’m only the Alpha when I have found my mate. I smirked at him. I HAVE VICTORY!
Ah, but that’s where you’re wrong. You have already found your mate. He leered at me and I swallowed deep. My eyes found their ways to Mr. Arley’s. No way.

So what do you think of Brent?
