Chapter 5
I stared at Mr. Arley in shock. I’m sure that he isn’t my mate but it’s possible, isn’t it? But then what was that thing I had when Brent walked into the room? Is it possible to have two mates? They say that a girl just knows who her mate is when she meets him but I’m so confused! It’s aggravating being me.
What’s wrong? Jeremy asked me, making me jump and consequently having Mr. Arley look at me suspiciously again. I rolled my eyes. If I keep having to roll my eyes like this, they will eventually fall out.
I looked at my brother and shook my head. He didn’t believe me obviously. He knows when I’m upset, angry or happy. We can guess each other’s emotions even though we aren’t close. He shook his head at me, disapprovingly. I looked at him, naively and he let it go. The bell rang and I was getting ready to jump up and leave before remembering the Alexander trio. I looked over at Brent.
“Hey, what do you now?” I asked him
“I knew you were going to say that.” He whispered to me, making sure his sisters couldn’t hear. He had a smirk on his face. Is every single guy in school a jerk? “We have AP History now...” He said.
“Actually, Brent, we just have History now,” His sister finally spoke. “Only you have AP History,” She said. I finally got a proper look at her. She looked so much like her other sister and nothing like Brent. She and sister both had their hair died red and wore similar outfit.
“Oh, really!” I exclaimed in excitement. I looked at my brother who was standing beside me protectively. “Jeremy just has History now, maybe he could show you to the classroom.” I sneered at Jeremy.
I am so getting you later. He growled inwardly.
No, you won’t or I’ll snap your arms like their twigs. Oh wait, they are! I kept a smile on my face while the Alexander trio stood their awkwardly. I looked at Brent. Did you hear that? I questioned, seeing how his powers worked. He nodded. I was impressed. I sent Jeremy a look before walking off and taking Brent with me. “See you later!” I called over my shoulder. I heard Jeremy growl.
“So Brent,” I said when we were walking down the halls. “How come you’re telepathic?” I interrogated. Normal humans do not just become psychics.
“My grandmother was part faerie,” I was stunned once again. He never ceases to amaze me. Faeries never actually crossed my mind. Normally, I just think Supernaturals are just Vampires, Werewolves and other Were creatures. I didn’t think about the other fairytale creatures; I knew they were real but... well I don’t know.
“Melissa?” He brought me out of my daze. I never realised how magical his voice sounded. I looked into his chocolate eyes and got lost in the depths of them. He looked at me as if I was mad but I didn’t care. I just wanted to stand there and look into them forever. “What does it mean when the second bell rings?” I was confused about what he was talking about until it clicked. Second bell? I grabbed his hand and ran down the corridor with him, barging past the other late students.
I finally got to AP History and Mr. Riley glared at Brent and beamed at me. I just glared back at Mr. Riley whilst squeezing Brent’s hand. Brent squeezed it back and I suddenly relaxed but only for my heart to speed up for me to realise I was still holding his hand. My palms grew sweaty. “I see you’re late Melissa and Mr. Alexander. But since Mr. Alexander is new he may be excused and since you’re Melissa, you may be too.” I rolled my eyes. He was obviously putting his head up my bum just so I wouldn’t hurt him when I’m Alpha.
I found Alison in the classroom and smiled and waved at her. She gave a small smile back. Well, I think it was a smile but it could have also bee a grimace. I walked over to her, still glued to Brent by my sweaty palm, and sat down beside her with Brent on my other side. When I finally unpacked and looked at Alison, she was so checking Brent out but then her eyes widened when she saw me holding hands with him. She waggled her eyebrows and winked. I gave her a mock glare and she giggled.
I kind of need my hand now, Melissa Brent’s voice popped into my head. I blushed whilst letting go. He smiled back nicely and went into his bag for his notebook and pen. I put my hand on my lap and started writing notes with the other. I felt his hand creep into my lap and take back my hand. I was shocked but gripped on to it. He smiled back and I reflected his expression back.
I couldn’t concentrate anymore. The only thing that mattered was his hand in mine.
--------------------------------------
He still hadn’t let go! It was the bell for Lunch and he was still holding my hand. A boy hasn’t help my hand since the 9th grade and here is this guy who walks in to my life a few hours ago and is now holding my hand. Okay, I may be in the 12th grade and everything but Oh, my god. And the fact that I like him, like fancy him, makes it even better. So maybe Mr. Arley isn’t my mate after all.
Well, that’s a relief. If it was him, I would have... I don’t think I would have actually minded. He is not a bad guy but just cocky. And his eyes are the deepest blue ever. Wait, I can’t be daydreaming about Mr. Arley while holding Brent’s hand. Isn’t that cheating? Suddenly, I felt like had to go see Mr. Arley.
“I have to-” I began before he cut me off.
“I know.” He said sadly and let go of my hand. I felt horrible but I had to make sure that Mr. Arley was definitely not my mate. I had to go now.
