Chapter Eleven

I parked in front of our house and Jeremy jogged out of the car and into the house. I walked in slowly. The house was completely silent which was odd because once Jeremy got in he would turn on the TV in the sitting room and then go upstairs.

I didn’t think anything about it at the time. He probably just needed the toilet. There was a loud crash upstairs but the something banged in the dining room. I didn’t know where to go. We weren’t alone.

“Hello!” I yelled into the silence. “Jeremy!” I hollered but silence greeted me. I tried to turn on the lights as there was another bang. “Jeremy, this isn’t funny now!” I sighed in frustration as he didn’t reply.   I turned my nose up searching for his scent. I followed it up the stairs and into the attack. I gasped at what was in front of me.

“It’s funny seeing you here, Melissa.” Sarah snarled at me whilst she stroked her finger over Jeremy’s shoulder. He stood there as stiff as a pillar; unmoving apart from the slight inflation and deflation of his chest as he breathed.

He had such a blank stare and he wasn’t looking at me. He was looking straight ahead. His light brown eyes had turned black- even the whites of his eyes were black. My hand went to my mouth in horror.

“What have you done to him?!” I hissed as she smirked at me. She gave out a humourless chuckle. She walked circles around Jeremy, menacingly. “What are you doing here?” My voice was unrecognisable. It was usually so strong even if it was quiet but, this time, it was shaky.

“Wouldn’t you like to know?” She sneered at me, mocking me. “You wouldn’t believe how easy it was to take over your brother’s mind. It was too easy for a Beta anyways. But he isn’t the Beta, is he now, Melissa?” She whispered as she strutted across the attic floor towards me. I took steps away from her.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I stammered out. She smiled. “Jeremy is the Beta. I’m second in line to Alpha. Once my dad has steeped off the Alpha throne, my brother would take over.” I recited unconvincingly.

“Don’t lie to me.” She said emotionlessly. “You know,” she looked at her nails, obviously uninterested in what she was about to say. “Being the offspring of a Maenad and the Alpha of a Rogue pack has its perks.” I gulped.

“Other than being immortal and all, I have other powers like control people minds. You see, I can read minds but I can’t read other Beta’s like you for instance.” She finally looked back up at me. “So don’t lie to me!” She bellowed. I let out a jagged breath.

She began to shake and I heard bones crack but she wasn’t hunched over in pain. That’s when I looked at her hands. They were claws but ugly claws that looked like they belonged to the Matador.

She still was shaking as she spoke, “In Greek Mythology, Maenads are the female followers of the God Dionysus.  I needed a vessel for the sacrifice so Dionysus can finally come. You see, us Maenads have evolved much like others supernatural creatures, but we believed we wouldn’t die and so we can’t until Dionysus arrives and takes us to be with him but I needed my vessel and guess who agreed to be my vessel.” She hissed.

I blinked in utter shock whilst staring at this thing that was in front of me shaking vigorously like a rattle snake’s tail- she was even making that sound. “Your precious Mr. Arley,” She mocked a high pitch girly voice and she was still approaching me. “The only way to get him to be the sacrifice is for me to get rid of you!” She screamed a high pitched tribal call as she raised her claw at me.

I protected my face with my hands but then I heard the attic door burst open and I was more than shocked to see who was there.

“BRENT, NO!” I yelled as he jumped on Sarah.

“Stay away from her!” He said as a blinding white light came out of his hands as he touched her. She went flying across my attic floor and slowly her claws went back to normal hands and she stopped shaking. “Are you okay?” He asked me and I nodded speechlessly.

How the hell did he get in my house?
