Chris
The girls stepped onto the track as the heat before them finished. They were in lane 4 while Crenshaw and Overland were on either side of them. I clicked my pen anxiously as they warmed up anticipating the start. I wasn't nervous but this race could go any way.
As much as I wanted to focus at the race at hand my eyes kept drifting to Nala. Ever since we've been intimate It's like I want her all the time. Between the morning sun hitting her skin just right and the State uniform hugging her in all the right places it was hard for me not to pull her off that track and bend her over in our team bus.
"RUNNERS TO YOUR MARK!"
I shook my thoughts away and watched Ezi get into her blocks. Crenshaw was running their mouth to her but it didn't look like it was affecting her much.
"GET SET!"
Here we go....
*BAM*
Springing out of the blocks Ezi powerfully goes into her drive phase. Her and Crenshaw were neck and neck as Overland was not too far behind them. Coming up to the first exchange zone, I look closely at the marks. A lot of teams get disqualified here for not making their exchange on time. Ezi and Kalani's goes smoothly and she was now leading with Overland trailing behind her. Crenshaw had a hiccup on their first exchange so they were now pushing 4th place. Kalani was now approaching Dawn still maintaining the lead.
"Damn it Dawn." I murmured
Dawn took off before Kalani hit the tape and they were nearing the end of the exchange zone. Kalani reached forward as much as she could and was able to get it in Dawn's hand right before the zone ended.
"Might wanna watch out for my last leg." The Crenshaw coach said smugly
"Not now nigga." I said stepping away from him.
I had to make sure this exchange went well. With Dawn taking off early she could already be on edge putting the exchange between her and Nala at risk. Nala stood in her ready stance with her left hand slightly swung back. Dawn hit the tape and she took off with Dawn not trailing too far behind her. They were able to get the exchange done smoothly. It was up to Nala now to put some distance between her and Crenshaw.
Their last leg had pretty good form I must say. She was taller than Nala, so her stride was longer than hers. They were now racing besides each other. The girl from Crenshaw kept looking over at Nala while Nala still focused on the 30m left ahead of her. She leaned forward over the finish line snagging first place.
"And Cherry Creek High takes first place with an impressive time of 44.01!"
"Yes!" I shouted "What was that shit you was saying earlier about the last leg?" I asked the Crenshaw Coach
He mugged me then walked off with his clipboard to meet his relay team. The girls were at the finish line all hugging Nala celebrating.
"You guys all ran 11's." I said approaching them "Dawn you took a off a little early but recovered well."
"Can you just get to the part where you say you're proud of us." Dawn whined
"Fine, I'm proud of y'all!"
They all grinned looking at each other and went their separate ways soon after. Kalani had to go do long jump and Nala walked off towards the stands where I saw her mother waiting to greet her with open arms.
"I'm so proud of you baby." She gushed hugging her tight
I smiled to myself as the two of them interact. It was like Nala was looking into a mirror. Terri patted her on her shoulder imitating the lean she did across the finish line.
