"Shit!"

I clipped the third hurdle with my right leg and stumbled forward. I put my hands out to catch myself but still ended up landing on my ass. I sat there for a moment mentally cursing myself out. The first meet was five days away, I couldn't afford any fuck ups.

"Your rhythm was off." Carter said holding his hand out to me

"I know." I rolled my eyes

I get up on my own rejecting his hand and dust myself off. I check my legs making sure I didn't scrape myself on the way down. My legs were clean but they had some red track dirt on them.

"Just trying to help." He said holding his hands up

"Well I don't need your fucking help okay?" I snapped

"Aye!" He said grabbing my arm "I'm still your coach, watch your mouth."

"Let go of me." I yanked my arm back

I walk off towards my bag to grab some water and put on my black Nike Pro leggings to decrease the risk of me scratching myself up. I take a sip of my water then start to stretch my legs out. I could feel myself tightening up already.

"What was all that about?" Kalani asked grabbing her water bottle

"Same bullshit it's been for the past week." I sighed

"Well you need to ignore all that, and focus up bitch. You're running against Skai Bailey this Saturday."

"You right." I nodded "I'm gonna go at it again."

I walked over to the start of where the hurdles were set up and see Coach Carter walking over there from the opposite side of the field as well. I tune him out and do a couple of knee jumps and stretch back into my blocks. Inhaling, I put my head down awaiting his whistle.

At the sound of it I explode out my blocks and sprint out to my first hurdle. For the first four hurdles I paced myself until the last four where I would sprint full out.

"45.09." Coach Carter repeated clocking his stopwatch

Skai ran a flat 44 last season. My practice times have been getting better but still not close enough.
