Am I selfish?

For wanting Chris to come with me instead of staying here and doing what he's grown to love. Maybe it was selfish of me to ask from the jump. Hey Chris I know you just got this job but quit and come with me to Louisiana. Why would I think that he would actually agree to that?

"You okay Nana?" Lanaa asked

"Yes, and it's Nala." I said correcting her

We were out at Ruth Chris. My dad invited my mom to come along also. He believes that we need to put the past behind us and move forward as one family. I agreed with him but the tension at this table was stifling. Every time my mother spoke Lanaa would just glare at her.

"You know who you're rooming with yet?" My dad asked

"Not yet, whoever she is though I hope she's clean." I answered

"We could always just get you a place off-campus." Lanaa said "That way you don't have to worry about rooming with anyone."

"Thanks, but no thanks. I need to be on campus for workouts at least for my first year, being off-campus will just make it more of a hassle."

"Oh okay." Lanaa said

My mom laughed a little as she sipped her wine. She found Lanaa's behavior desperate and comical.

"Something funny?" Lanaa asked

"Sweetie please." My dad said

"No, what's funny huh?"

"You." My mom answered "You can't buy my daughter's love."

"I'm not trying to buy her love!"

"Then what are you trying to do hm?" My mom said putting her wine glass down "You just offered to get her an apartment off-campus, and earlier you offered to buy her her dream car as a parting gift. You're just throwing around money at this point. Or should I say Darryl's money?" My mom smirked

I quietly continued to eat my steak in order to contain my laugh. I told my mom how weird Lanaa as been acting recently and she's been wanting to talk to her about it. I tried telling my dad but he just kept saying that it was Lanaa's way of being nice. I literally found her obsessing over a baby picture of me in his office. Tracing the outline of my face and smiling to herself. Weirdo shit.

"Nala deserves the world, and I'm willing to give it to her." Lanaa crossed her arms "Seeing as though you haven't gave her much. She went through her last years of high school with no car, what kind of mother are you?"

"The type that doesn't use materialistic things to buy my own daughter's love, and may I remind you she's my daughter. I tried getting Nala her own car but she refused seeing how much I've invested into her track career. Nala doesn't even like materialistic things, she's not a flashy person. You wouldn't even know that though because you're too busy obsessing over her like a crazy person."
