(The Maw, Overview) (Short)

8 years have passed since the Six and Twelve took command of the Maw, 7 of those years have been working out how the Maw works in the first place. You'd think there would be an instruction manual placed somewhere inside but you'd be wrong. Very wrong.

Twelve (now 20) was appointed the head waiter by Six, tasked with efficiently delivering the food from the kitchen to the dining halls. His wings make him an agile and quick server able to bring food all throughout the Maw in just minutes. He was also called leech bane on account of how much he despises them. Also considering how many nests he's scorched. Though between shifts in the Maw, he likes to tinker with the items he finds around the massive submarine, even going through the items of dead guests because it's not like they'll be needing them anymore.

The Maw has a funny way of pulling you in and not letting you go, no matter how hard you struggle. Like quicksand.

Six had taken the mantle of the Governess as she had so many time before now, replacing her past timeline self, this time with two companions instead of one. As the head of the Maw, Six continued to bring in guests to feed the vessel, as much as Six, Twelve and RK wanted to stop feeding the Maw, something would always manage to convince them otherwise. Whether that be harsh nightmares during their sleep, infected with hundreds of dozens of ways they could have brutally met their ends during their lives. And ways the Maw can still end their lives.

And Six always had it the worst.

Being the escape artist she is, she's had more than just her share of near death experiences, whether it be before, after or during her time in the Nest, Pale City and the Maw.

The Maw even called upon forbidden memories, the last moments before each and every one of them died in a past timeline. It never used anything to turn them against each other, unless it needed to. Which hadn't happened regularly, but when it did, the atmosphere between the three was so thick you'd have a harder time trying to cut a loaf of bread into slices with a plastic spoon. Visions of Six tearing the throat out of both Twelve and RK, Twelve in Camp Lookout, and RK in the Maw; right after he became a nome.

Six hadn't been killed by anything other than her own overconfidence and early timeline naivety. Finding the middle ground between confidence and intelligence was crucial to her discovering the timeline differences, noticeable changes in actions by her, by Mono, by anyone she's ever come into contact with. Then it became routine, wake up as a captured child in the Nest, escape to the Pale City's forest with the help and sacrifice of Raincoat Girl, get captured by the Hunter, rescued by Mono. From there it was almost the same as usual, from the school to the tower she'd have Mono's coattails to ride on, then at the fateful jump, with an emotionless face...

She'd drop him, as she has in every other timeline. Something possesses her to do so, her body doesn't respond to her commands to pull him up. It's like watching a pre-recorded film through your own eyes, unable to change the course of actions taken by the characters and there's no pretending once that character is dead. Especially when no matter what you do, they will always die. And by your hand at that.

Six always despised those memories, that feeling of helplessness when someone she depended on is betrayed and she can't do a damn thing to stop it. She wondered what the next loop would entail, it might have even started by now. She was the Governess after all and the Governess position never lasts more than a dozen years. She wondered if the new Six would have a Twelve with her, she'd be surprised if she did because the fact that her own Twelve survived for so long is because he's an enigma. Not really of this world, like a demigod but less so.

Just when Six thought she knew the way things always went, something throws a curveball in her plans and obliterates them.
