(Pale City - Camp Lookout, Your POV)
After spelunking through a warehouse all of yesterday, I really needed to think about it. Six is incredibly suspicious and she definitely knows more than she lets on. I have to watch my back around her, I don't know why but I get this itch in my fingers whenever she's around and I can't read her like I can other kids. Her teeth are sharp enough to rip through the skin of a leech with a single bite so it could likely also puncture a human with relative ease.
Can I really trust her?
*CRASH!*
WHY DO I CONSTANTLY GET WOKEN UP BY SOMETHING CRASHING INTO SOMETHING?!
I quickly got up and out of my daydreaming status, large boots circled around the building. I peeked through the clothing outside and saw a long faced, trench coat wearing monster- wait.
It looked at me and gave a weird long faced smile.
"There you are little one, I've been searching for you in particular." He spoke, his voice was rather soft for a monster, completely the opposite of what I was expecting. "You must be wondering who I am, right? I'm not a hostile monster for starters I assure you. I am known as The Ferryman."
He's here, he's finally here. HOLY HELL HE'S ACTUALLY HERE!
"Finally! Please, give me a moment to gather a few things. I'll be right back!" I said in an excited tone of voice, quickly re-entering and grabbing a suitcase full of supplies I had packed just for this trip. I looked over to Six, who was just waking up. No time to wait, we've got to get going!
"Six! Get your stuff and get on the boat, were finally leaving this retched place! I'll grab the-" Should I grab the stage for the dolls or should I leave that here? I wonder if other kids will come across my camp...
I shook my head, "Nevermind, just get your stuff. The Ferryman is outside and we are leaving for the Maw!"
(Pacific Ocean, Your POV)
The breeze from the ocean blowing across my face reminds me so much of the Nest. I looked over at the suitcase Six was in, it made me smile, for such a feral child her weakness being a business container is kind of funny.
"Hey, Mr. Ferryman? How long does this usually take?" I asked, there's only been fog and water for what feels like hours.
"Not much longer now, just a few more minutes." He answered, his- I almost made a pun about his long face but I don't think he'd appreciate that and I'd rather not be thrown off this boat.
I looked back into the empty sea, 'Still nothin- I take that back.' I thought as a large metal ship appeared within view. It's actually a bit smaller than I thought it'd be, but I've had enough of the Pale City to know not to complain about finally being somewhere hopefully better.
The lights finally came into view and when I say they were bright, oh man I sure mean it.
The Ferryman took the boat closer, into a smaller and less noticeable entrance on the side that led into The Maw. I looked inside as we slowed down, water dripped from the metal beams and gently splashed against the sea water, creating a calming feeling in me. 'Maybe this place won't be so bad, I doubt it can be worse than the Pale City. At least I PRAY it can't be worse.'
Though, what can I go through that'd be worse than the Pale City? I doubt anything can top it.
The ferryman brought us to a platform with a lift, he grabbed the suitcase and placed it on the lift.
"Take your friend and follow the lit candles, they will take you to safety. This is as far as I can go. I will return once I find more children. Farewell little ones. And best of luck." He waved and departed as I popped the suitcase open, looking back at the candles he told us to follow. Six stretched and rubbed her eyes as she woke up from her sleep.
"The Ferryman said follow the candles, now hop to. We're off into the Maw, don't drag behind." I helped her up and pointed towards the lit candles out of the path of any wind or water splashes from the sea. She followed me, still a little dizzy from waking not too long ago. There was a makeshift ladder made of clothes and broken metal, so I led her to it. "You go first, I don't want any funny business if you try to peek up my coat." Six said while yawning.
"Like I'd ever do such a thing, do you take me for some kind of scoundrel? A pervert even? I was raised to be a gentleman." I put my hand on my chest, faking hurtfulness with a smirk. "I wasn't going to look up your raincoat y'know, I'd at least take you to dinner first." I grabbed onto one of the bars, it's really sturdy and sways very little, whoever made this must've had a lot of time on their hands. Or was really crafty.
(8 minutes later)
Glass, splinters and "Leeches, god forsaken leeches. Why do they exist? Just to spite me?" I said as I wiped blood off my sleeve. "Disgusting," Six had stayed back as I punched the head off the last leech. "That was the last one, come on. We can't be far now." I grabbed her hand, ducking beneath a broken board leading into a broken wall, behind that wall was a fire, with kids around it.
I couldn't stop as a smile plastered itself on my face, "Finally, a place of rest." I let go of Six's hand, she looked disappointed when I did, "Six, you ok?" I asked.
She looked away and blurted out, "I'm fine. Just nervous, that's one big kid." She pointed to the hulking figure in the group, they're all wearing clothes that cover their faces. I took a quick glance around, no leeches, no glass, this place is actually rather clean. Then again, if this is all there is, I'd assume they wouldn't want leeches coming in and picking them off one by one.
I slid down a cloth pile, drawing the attention of the kids around the fire. "I'm not a monster. Just a kid who found his way onto the Maw." I said in their direction, "You fellas know how to get into it right?" He asked, the group nodded. One of them shuddered lightly. "We know the way in, but if you go in, there's no way you're getting back out."
I smiled, "Don't worry, I like my odds of survival."
