Chapter 12 - Gluttony

(The Maw - The Kitchen, Your POV)

I was woken up when Six lightly booped my nose. Man, I actually fell asleep? That's surprising.

Six:"We have to keep going. Come on."

She picked up the key, I nudged RK to follow. We stepped into the elevator once more. It went down? Up? Man I'm still drowsy give me a minute. The elevator opened and we went into the locked room, there's another door but I do not have the strength for this right now.

RK:"We can go through there." He pointed to the hatch in the wall. The elevator went back up. "Quick!" He jumped and pulled it down. Six and RK went down the shoot while I rubbed my eyes.

"Crap." The chef walked into the room, spotting me instantly. My adrenaline kicked in as I dodged away from his hand, reopening the hatch and jumping down, just barely missing a part that would've caught me by the hood.

I landed on a trash pile, I think this is the garbage disposal. I think we had one of these back at the Nest.

RK whisper shouted to me, "Up here!" He waved from a drainpipe hole in the wall. I got up, careful not to cut my hand on anything and started climbing.

We found ourselves in a room full of dishes, and both chefs. "I really don't like this situation so I'm gonna do this at speeds unimaginable. I'll be right back." I said as I climbed out and ran into another room, noticing a level I could push to activate something.

The chefs had definitely taken notice in my presence by now as one walked in, hands ready to grab something. I dashed back into the room with the tower of dishes and started climbing. The chefs were too focused on me to notice Six and RK already way ahead of me on the hooks. "You guys need glasses." I stuck my tongue out at them as I passed into another room, this one has the giant abyss again.

One of the chefs thought he was smart and tried to cut me off. Standing on an elevated position and trying to grab me, I let go and floated to the ground with my wings. The door behind me slammed opened with the other chef. "I stole your carrots! Later catzos!" I laughed as I skated through with my wings. Catching another hook at the last second and crossing the abyss onto a pipe and-

Are we? Almost outside? I crossed the pipe, a small ladder lead up. And I'm sure as heck not going down. I climbed the ladder, meeting something I didn't expect to see today. The Sun!

The thing that Pale City never has! The blessed Sun! I put my arms out, letting the rays hit my skin in its great warmth.

Oh Sun, How I missed you.

Anyway, I should probably catch up with Six and Runaway Kid.

(The Maw - Guest Area, Your POV)

As I climbed the long rope, I noticed the large amount of comically oversized people entering the Maw from a ship. Kind of reminds me what happens to the viewers that the tower doesn't eat. They get fat, then they disappear onto a ship in the dead of night. I guess this is where they go to.

I climbed back inside the Maw, balancing on a beam and into a small room. The boards had been pulled off so I assume this is the work of my compatriots. I crossed another pipe onto wooden boards. I'm hearing someone hum. It's actually really nice, it's soothing and relaxing.

"If I weren't scared for my life all the time, I'd complement that person." I said as I started to climb up a wooden wall. Once at the top I looked through the structure to see a Lady in a white mask watching the people pass. She's wearing a Japanese kimono and she has her hair in a bun.

She just might be the most elegant thing I've seen since the collapse of society.

I can't get too distracted however. I've still got to catch up with Six and RK.
