Chapter 46: Cancelled

"What do you mean cancelled?" Fritz asked.

"Yeah. Final round of the tournament was supposed to be today at lunch, but it's cancelled. Some sort of weird cancel thing. But believe me, I am as disappointed as you guys. We are undefeated, right? But, uh, here's the flyer. Says it right there. 'Cancelled'," Tylor explained, holding the sign with the word "Cancelled" at the top.

"Says it right there in cancel font," Fritz said.

"Cancel font. I've seen it before. I know it well," Tylor agreed.

"That looks like your handwriting," Val pointed out.

"Hey! Uh, everybody did great. In fact, you guys should go into town for lunch. Into town over...You should go there, not be here," Tylor told them.

"Oh, aren't you gonna come?" Val asked.

"Me?" Tylor wondered.

"You're the team captain," Cutter reminded.

"Somebody's gotta hold down the fort. And I'm pooped. You guys go. You deserve it," Tylor told them.

"You are so selfless. Is he not selfless? Always thinking about others," Fritz said.

"That's...That's me," Tylor sighed.

When they left, he turned to face Jamie.

"Ty, what's really going on?" she asked.

He sighed and said, "It's complicated."

"Did you make a deal with Duncan?" Jamie wondered.

Tylor looked at her, stunned, before saying, "You really know me well."

"Yes I do. But you should know better than to do that," she warned.

"I know. But I felt like it was my only option. Just please let me handle this," he requested.

She sighed at that before kissing his cheek and hugging him, which he returned.

"I hope you know what you're doing," Jamie said into his chest.

"You and me both," Tylor admitted before kissing the top of her head.
