fireworks.
chapter thirteen -▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃
LIKE A beat of an heart, eyes focused on the colors shown during the night. A sound that pops, Hanma takes a glance at the young lady seating beside him- knees up and arms wrapping for warmth.
Eyes were mesmerized at the fireworks displayed and a small gap between the lips. You exhaled, the white mist that appears afterwards disappears in a moment.
The days passes by fast- New Year's Eve was already yesterday. Nonetheless Hanma was glad to start the year with you.
A soft grin that was left on his face. Hanma thought to himself, will you both ever get to do this next year? All he could do is pray for that to happen.
"Did you like the firework display?" You asked, grinning while laying down on the grass. Eyes didn't bothered to look at the man beside her but to the moon who was smiling upon you both.
Hanma chuckles, "Of course. I was watching it together with you after all," He said before laying down beside you. Hands that barely touched eachother wants to connect.
The young man turns his head to focus his gaze on you, "What about you?"
"Me too!" You exclaimed, a faint smile that can be seen. If only such time can last for a long time, it would be every single second you spent time with Hanma. Everything seems to spark whenever you're with him.
"'Cause Shuuji is with me."
Make his heart go pop, squeeze, and twist. All of the things he could describe, it is only for you to do. And the things he would do is only for you. His throat forms a knot, eyes that were scanning your face. He wouldn't get tired of it even if it's the only thing he sees every single time.
Hanma gave a low chuckle, covering his eyes with his arms. His heart beating fast, he was quite fell down really hard for a person who didn't expect to barge in his life just like that.
"Are you crying?" You turned your head and raised a brow at Hanma's position.
The man beside you gave a hum before answering your question. When was the last time he cried? Wasn't it during his death? It's already been months, that memory of his only lingers left behind his back. Hanma opens his mouth to voice out some few words, "Not really."
It got silent for a few seconds, nothing but the loud noise of Tokyo celebrating a new year that has set upon. And the only source of light for the night was the moon and stars that you both always stare at, admiring at how beautiful it always looks like.
"Y'know..." You started, eyes that were slowly darting back to the widespread sky. "It's okay if you want to cry. You shouldn't always have to keep it in."
Words of advice Hanma could say. The sides of his lips tugs up, a smile forming. Hanma definitely takes your words, that's right. It's okay to cry, at least let him lean onto you.
Everything in their vision was moving, both teenagers were walking back to your apartment. Some vehicles passing by and no one else but the both of you were the only ones strolling through the night.
You hummed a tune, Hanma listened.
Side by side you were both close to eachother. Tranquility, calmness, and ease were the three words that describes the vibe beneath the sky.
"I'm getting sleepy," You yawned. Tears forming for the sides of your cheeks and a sniff you gave afterwards. Eyes were getting drowsy each time you take a step towards a certain destination.
How unusual for you to be like this. You can get past around three o'clock in the morning but now, your eyes were collecting tears.
Hanma looks at the young lady walking slowly beside him. He raises a brow and examines your figure- it was indeed no lie. You look very much tired and fatigue, how did that even happened?
Another yawn that released from your mouth. You sighed, trying to relax your tensed shoulders to make yourself comfortable. But when you were about to do so, you came into a halt.
Eyes were slightly opened wide whilst questioning the man who was squatting infront of your body. You chuckled, "What are you doing, Shuuji?"
"C'mon," Hanma takes a peek from behind his shoulders . He could see you tilt your head slightly to the side with a confused face, "Hm?"
Hanma slowly looks back infront, just a few more blocks and you both will arrive at the apartment building. The young man closed his eyes, "You're sleepy right? So, sleep on my back."
"Are you sure?" You grinned.
The man infront of you nods his head, he was certain that he can take you both home safely- he also wants to make you comfortable. "I'm sure."
You shoved your head on Hanma's neck. Arms and legs wrapped around his body to be secured from falling down with an impact. The once foul scent that was lingering around him smells refreshing this time. You just recently noticed it- did Hanma stopped smoking? You don't clearly recall of the young man smoking today nor during any of the past months.
"Shuuji," You muttered. Hanma could feel your cold breath hit his neck, "What is it?"
"You smell nice. Did you stopped smoking?" He did- he did it only for you. Hearing you all worried makes him feel bad and so he stopped. Hanma doesn't remember when exactly he just knows he didn't got to touch a single stick from that box.
Hanma pressed his lips to a think line. He was quiet for a few seconds before nodding his head, "Yeah. I did."
"I see. That's good." Your eyes closed up, you were starting to drift off to your wonderland.
If Hanma wants to live a long life together with you then he would try his best to make himself a better man- A man that you deserve.
