José de San Martín played a huge part in the beginning of Peru's fight for independence from Spain. There were several other conditions that also helped. "The economic crises, the loss of power of Spain in Europe, the war of independence in North America and native uprisings all contributed to a favorable climate to the development of emancipating ideas among the criollo population in South America."

"Argentine patriot, General San Martin's strategy to liberate Peru was to use diplomacy." Any negotiations that took place didn't gain any success.

Jose de la Serna was named as the Viceroy of Peru after he organized a coup against the previous viceroy. (Fun fact: this man was named commander-in-chief by the guy that he replaced.)

This helped San Martin's army gain success, but he met with Jose de la Serna in order to avoid military confrontation. The Viceroy offered to create a constitutional monarchy, but that offer was not accepted, and he left the city (Lima, Peru's capital.)

"12th 1821 San Martin occupied Lima and declared Peruvian independence on July 28th 1821."

"Bolivar [Simon Bolivar, the guy who liberated Bolivia] was left in charge of fully liberating Peru while San Martin retired from politics after the first parliament was assembled."
