Niger was originally apart of the French West African colony. This colony was an outpost for the French military, but there were some areas that resisted colonialism.

The July of 1960 was the year that the French government decided to dissolve the colony. They didn't just plan to dissolve it though, the four regions that made up the state were granted independence.
