In the 1880s France annexed the area that CAR is now located. Then in 1894 a dependency* was set up in the area. It was called Ubangi-Chari and was split up among commercial concessionaires*.

Concessionaires*: noun plural noun: concessionaires 1. the holder of a concession or grant, especially for the use of land or commercial premises. Source: Oxford Languages (aka the google dictionary)
In 1910 "Ubangi-Chari becomes part of the Federation of French Equatorial Africa." Protests from from indigenous Africans were done to go against the abuse they received from the concessionaires in the years 1920-1930.
Ubangi-Chari was given "its own assembly and representation in the French parliament" in 1946, and the first Central African that was elected to the French parliament was "Barthelemy Boganda, founder of the pro-independence Social Evolution Movement of Black Africa (MESAN)"
In 1957 "MESAN wins control of the territorial assembly; Boganda becomes president of the Grand Council of French Equatorial Africa."
"The territory achieves self-government within French Equatorial Africa with Boganda as prime minister. [in 1958]" and Baganda died one year later.
In 1960 The Central African Republic became independent.
