Held in 1815, the Congress of Vienna decided that Belgium and holland would be best as one state. Ruled by King William I, this state only lasted for around 15 years.

"A programme of demands" was created by the Catholics who didn't want the King to mess with their church, and the Liberals who wanted more freedom.

A revolution broke out after several incidents. Mainly the changes that Charles X made. He suspended freedom of the press, changed editorial laws (this caused around 3/4 of the votes to be lost,) and called for new elections.

Protests and strikes followed all of this, and troops were scent to Brussels. On September 27th 1830 those soldiers got thrown out.

After all of this Belgium and Northern Netherlands diverged. Belgium declared independence by their provisional government on October 4th, 1830. And on the 3rd of November, 1830, Belgium elected a National Congress.

Finally on February 7th 1831 a constitution for Belgium was adopted.
