"Where've you been?" Marley asks, cornering me by the water fountain.
"Sorry," I say sheepishly, "I've been preoccupied."
"Yeah, I've noticed that," he frowns. "So, are you just done with me?"
I blink, astonished, "No, what? You seriously want to talk about this here?"
"You keep dodging my texts!" He says, voice cracking slightly.
I bite my tongue. This is exactly what I was afraid of. I'm blunt, sure, but I have literally no idea how to explain any of this to Marley. How do you tell someone you thought you were into that you like another person more? Or rather, how do you tell them in a way that won't hurt them? Cause I sure as hell can't think of one.
"I'm sorry," I whisper. "Want to hang out after school today? Talk things out?"
Marley raises his eyebrows, the corners of his mouth inching up into a smile. "Really?"
"Really," I smile back. "What do you say?"
Despite the fact that the impending conversation will undoubtedly be uncomfortable for the both of us, I'm glad that we're actually going to have it. I'm scared though.
Marley nods. "I'd like that."
