Misty

It was the middle of June and I was in full swing at the American Ballet Theater. The various rehearsals I had to do, the hours of practice and exercising all while working at the center and still under EDC was hectic.

"Grandma are you ready?"

"Almost."

Sighing, I sat and waited on her. Today I had to fly to Phoenix for a show for the next three days and honestly I was tired.

As I checked over my schedule, I groaned hearing the sound of the doorbell.

"Come on grandma, we have to leave like now." I called as I got the door. "Yes?"

"Delivery for a Miss. Misty Copeland."

Taking a deep breath, I exhaled.

"What is it now?" I asked as I signed off on it.

"Not sure ma'am." He laughed before stepping aside.

For the past three weeks, I've been receiving gifts and flowers from August. When we got back from Florida, we were greeted by three large bouquets just sitting on the porch.

Allowing him to come in, the delivery guy had a fairly big box in his hand while another came with more flowers.

"Again?" I heard my grandmother say. "You need to talk to him. I'm getting tired of this."

"Thanks." I told the guys before they left.

Not saying anything, I took the base of flowers and walked out back. Every time I received them, I would plant them. As much as I wasn't in the mood to talk to him, I wasn't about to waste his money by throwing it away.

"Okay, let's go." I came back in, dusting off my hands.

"Are you ever going to talk to him?"

"I don't know grandma."

"You know this is going to continue if you don't. I mean you have people approaching you in the street, telling you to forgive him."

She was right. Since his posts, almost everywhere I went, someone would stop me and say to forgive him.

For the past couple weeks, any interview he did, when they asked about it, he would say up front that he messed up and that he was or is trying to fix it.

"Has he called you?"

"No."

"He is beating you down to get what he wants." She laughed.

I didn't say anything because it was working in a way. I was beginning to not only get tired of the constant barrage of gifts but I was missing him. As much as I tried to hold my ground, my love for him was still there.

"I know you still love him and believe me when I tell you, you won't be any less of a woman if you do forgive him."

"I won't?"

"No. Because in the end, your happiness is what counts. The both of y'all for that matter. I'm mad at him but I still know he loves you honestly, just like you know he does."

"Yeah." I sighed.

"So what are you going to do?"

"When we get back, I'll call him."

"Okay."

Hugging me, I smiled a bit. Sitting at the airport, we waited for our flight to call.

"Hi Misty?"

"Yes?"

Looking over my shoulder, this beautiful lady sat there smiling.

"I didn't mean to eavesdrop on y'all conversation, but your grandmother is right."

"Why you say that?"

"I don't know what he did to you, but I've been down this road. My now husband cheated on me and I didn't sit a take it. Everyday for a year he was in front my apartment with a single white rose that had a note attached to the stem. Each note was a reason why he loved me, why was sorry, why he did what he did and why he not only needed but wanted me."

"Oh wow."

"Yeah and tl this day, I still have those three hundred and sixty-six notes, because it was a leap year." She laughed.

Smiling, I just nodded.

"Sometimes they make shitty mistakes which unfortunately have to show them what they really have. We've been married for ten plus years now and happier than anything."

"Wow." Was all I could say.

"So just hear him out."

"Thanks you. I will." I agreed. "If you don't mind me asking, but how long after did you hear him out?"

"The last note had read "Let's fix this!" At the end of it. It was at that point that I knew he was done being selfish. Even though he wanted to fix it, he knew it would take the both of us and the fact that he understood that, I agreed."

"Oh okay."

"Nothing is wrong with giving it time and making him feel it, but understand eventually some will give up and some won't."

After she said that, her husband came back. Smiling at me he said what I thought what his wife was going to say.

"You should forgive him girl." He chuckled.

"I'll think about it." I smiled at him.

Shortly after, our flight was called. Saying goodbye, my grandmother and I made our way to the tunnel.

"She more convinced me than any other stranger."

"Shit she convinced me too and I don't even got a man."

"You're too much." I shook my head.

"I know." She laughed. "Do we have any free time while we're out there?"

"Yeah. I'm off on Friday. Tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday are show days."

"Okay."

"What you want to do?"

"What is there to do in Phoenix?"

"I don't know but I can check."

"Well then check but I know I want food for sure."

"That's all you been doing."

"I know right."

"Grandma?"

"Mhmm." She nodded.

"Do you think he meant for what happen to happen the way it did?"

"Honestly. I don't think so. I think he got caught up in seeing you and all his feelings came back to him."

"And what about the night in his hotel room?"

"Didn't you say Maggie laced her ice cream with laxatives?"

"Yeah."

"Well how would you feel if he was sick and Jamal rushed in and began beating him." She laughed.

"I would get upset."

"Exactly. Like I've told you before, everything happens for a reason. Y'all are young and in love and acting crazy but now its time to be grown."

"You're right."

"I know I am. Now where is the flight attendant." She looked around. "I need a drink."

Shaking my head, I got out my headphones and put them on while she got her drink. Scrolling through the music on my phone, I smiled before pressing play and relaxed.
