Misty

"Um, hello!"

Waving his hand in front of her, I laid there staring at the woman who just brought in our daughter.

"Mommy?" I finally spoke.

"Mommy?" Aug repeated.

Looking back at me then over at her, I was in just as much shock as she was standing there.

"Misty?" She questioned.

Approaching us, I just laid there as the tears welled in my eyes.

"She's, she's yours?" She asked.

"Yes." I whispered and nodded.

Taking her out of the bassinet, she approached us.

"Mommy you just said Misty?" Aug questioned.

"Yes." I looked at him.

"Lady you know how long niggas been tryna find you?"

"What?" She looked at him.

Taking our daughter into my arms, I smiled as she laid there peacefully.

"She's been an angel since she's been here." She handed her over.

"Yeah?" I smiled.

Sitting besides me, Aug leaned in and kissed her.

"I'm August by the way." I then heard.

"Oh my gosh. Baby I'm so sorry."

"Its okay love." He chuckled and kissed my forehead.

"Mommy, this is my husband August."

"Nice to meet you." She smiled and nodded.

"Aug, this is my mother, Sylvia."

"Sylvia? Like maw?"

"Yes. I was named after my mother." She laughed.

"I can't believe I found you."

"Found me?" I questioned. "I've been trying to find you."

"I've been looking for you since I got back into the states last October."

"What?" I asked confused.

"I've been looking for you for years."

"Why didn't you ask your brother for me?"

"We have?" Both Aug and I said.

Taking the baby from me, Aug walked over to the the chair and sat.

"I've asked Doug and he refused to tell me."

"Refused?"

"Yes." I sighed.

"His bitch ass still hating on her."

"Doug and I have been in contact always. He never once mentioned that to me and he knows I've been looking for y'all. I even went by the apartment."

"We moved six years ago."

"Oh."

"Why you never called? Where have you been?"

"After the last time we spoke, I told myself I would get my act together and come back for you. It took me a while and I just lost sight of everything. Nothing was going right so I thought staying away would have given you a better chance and I guess it did."

"Yeah but it still did something to me. You could have called?"

"I had lost my bag with my phone and everything. When I didn't get back my bag, I went to replace my i.d and everything and I saw an opportunity to be a nurse oversees so I took it. I still can't believe your brother did that."
