Chapter 3

Misty

"Grandma, are you in here?"

Placing my keys down on the side table in there foyer, I took off my jacket and hung it in the hall closet before making my way upstairs.

"Grandma?"

"In here sweet heart." She called from her room.

Entering, I don't know what she was looking for, but there were clothes all over the place.

"Found it." I finally heard.

Walking out of her closet, she had this antique box in her hand.

"What you got there crazy lady?" I laughed.

"This? Oh its just a jewelry box I've had for years."

"I can tell." I continued laughed.

The box was made out of some form of enamel metal and was rusted and dented all over.

"So what were you calling me for?"

Remembering my initial thought, I turned to her and spoke.

"I saw Aug today." I sigh.

"Really? Where?"

"At Maggie's. She explained to me that apparently Kevin had forgotten I was coming home so he decided to invite Aug,Travis and Terrence our here."

"Oh wow."

"Yeah." I sighed.

"So happened?"

"I froze?"

"You froze?"

"Yeah. I was coming back from the bathroom, speaking and when I entered the livingroom, he was sitting there and I just paused. And so did he. We just stared at each other."

"Really?"

"Yes." I sighed again. "Grandma. He looked so good."

Sitting there, I just let it all out. This was in fact my first time seeing him in person before he left for Europe four years ago.

"Let me ask you a question."

"Mhmm."

"If he approaches you to talk, would you?"

"Um, yeah. I guess."

"Well then just relax love. Now what's going on with you and Jamal. Last night after dinner y'all were up a while and now tonight you have dinner again with him?"

"We're just two friends catching up grandma."

"Are you sure about that because y'all looked like a little family last night."

"I'm actually helping him with Destiny's birthday party."

"Oh. You and all this planning." She laughed.

"I need to keep busy and you know this."

"That's why you did that events course?"

"Yes and its been going good."

"You're a creative soul so I understand."

"Thank you."

Laying my head on her shoulder, she patted my knee.

"I missed you so much."

"I too sweet heart."

"Traveling around is one thing but being away for a year is crazy."

"Anyway. Go get ready for your date." She laughed.

"Its not a date."

"Mhmm."
