Chapter 9

Talk

Ian gently placed Wenduo on his bed after changing the sleepy bun. He gently placed the blanket over him as he snuggled into his pillow.

Ian smiled softly before standing up and making his way to Chenyi's bedroom.

He shakily grips onto the doorknob. He takes a deep breath before twisting it open.

"Chenyi?" he called softly as he pushed the door open before closing it once he's in.

Chenyi was working on something on his desk by the side of the room. Once he heard Ian, he immediately stopped and stood up.

"Yes, Ian?"

"I... wanted to talk to you about something..." Ian said fiddling with his pajama top.

"Of course, why don't we sit on the bed?" Chenyi offered him a small smile before he led Ian to sit.

"Umm, I've been meaning to ask you... I thought you wanted to divorce me?"

Chenyi flinched slightly before putting his hand across his face, "I did."

"Then... why?"

Chenyi snorted softly in mock-amusement in himself, "I fell. Hard."

Ian blinked and turned red to the ears once he processed what he meant, "O-Oh..."

"You changed... I don't know how. But that day when I returned from C-Country, you just had this... look in your eyes when you demanded to be with Wenduo. And I just wanted to see it again and again. And I did. It seemed to make you seem brighter than anything I've ever seen. And you... you were just amazing. Gentle and soft-spoken, yet not afraid to say what you want. I just... couldn't help it." he laughed to himself and lowered his gaze. "I just couldn't help falling in love with you."

Ian's face burned and turned redder as his eyes glistened. He put a hand over his face trying to cover the very evident blush that couldn't be hidden.

"I... love you too."

Chenyi's eyes widened, "You do?"

Ian smiled at him softly in a way he's never been before. Honestly Ian felt like he was swooning and just thinking about it made him blush harder.

"Yes. You were this man that everyone wanted. And I was lucky to have you even reluctantly. And honestly, I admire you greatly. Young and yet so powerful. You were smart and albeit a little cold, you undeniably treated people well. Especially Duo'er. I know you love him so much, I see how much you love him. And it just warmed me up inside seeing you take care of him, how much you just seem to soften with him. You were so caring, and... knowing that you feel the same way— I just..." Ian choked slightly in tears.

Chenyi's eyes furrowed in concern and took out a handkerchief to wipe off his tears, "Hey, hey... what's the matter?"

Ian couldn't help but giggle, somehow a hiccup mixed in with it and Chenyi's insides fluttered at how adorable it was.

"I'm fine, just a little emotional..." he lowered his face as his tears dropped to his lap, "I... always wanted a family. And now I finally have it..."
