Insomnia. It made her moody. Amy glared up at the ceiling, thinking of all the people in the world who were fast asleep. The sheep were laid all around her bed for they had grown tired from jumping. She frowned, they were supposed to help her sleep not the other way around. The room was so silent it made her ears throb, the world was at rest. The room was so quiet she could feel the rush of the blood in her ears juxtaposed to the silence of the rest of the world.
A shiver slipt down her spine like a snake making her shudder. Amy let out an exasperated breath as she pulled the covers off of her body and sat up, her legs dangling off the bed. She hissed. The bottom of the dark abyss below her was cold, freezing. Amy put on a brave face and stood up, her bare feet became immune to the icy feeling as she walked to her door. It clicked as she tried to open it quietly in order to not wake Freddy who laid asleep in his bed behind the door on the other side of the room.
Amy quietly walked to his door to check it was shut before she turned on the kitchen light. The time on the microwave read '2:46' making Amy groan internally. She felt wide awake and she knew that if she didn't fall asleep she'd regret it later. She put her hands on the worktop and closed her eyes, life could be frustrating sometimes.
Amy decided to head out for a walk, to give her sheep a chance to wake up and to potentially tire her out. She quietly walked back into her room, she pulled on a hoodie and slipped on her trainers. She turned the kitchen light off before she left.
The the corridors were silent, with only the muffled sound of a snore here and there. The only sign of life. Amy used the stairs instead of the lift so she didn't cause a lot of sound and get others into her situation. Outside the hotel was a little more lively. The cold wind was having the most fun, it nipped at her cheeks. The streetlights gleamed, showing passerbys the safe way. There wasn't many people walking around or many cars on the road, mainly people coming from nights out or working a late shift. The city grew an aliveness that had Amy been lacking these past few minutes.
She pulled up her hood as the wind nipped at her again, it grasped her hands causing her to hide them in her sleeves. Amy only hoped she didn't get lost on the alien streets that she didn't know anything about. She decided to just go in a straight line and to never turn into any side streets or allys, just sticking to the main road so there was always people around her. Amy was a woman walking alone at night after all, she knew she wasn't safe.
Amy didn't know how long she'd been out for but the warmth of the hotel welcomed her with open arms. She shook off all the cold before ascending the stairs again, her movements were a little more sluggish. That gave her hope that she'd fall asleep sooner rather than later. She returned to the same corridor she'd walked, or ran, so many times before with Freddy by her side. He wasn't this time.
When Amy unlocked the door she was shocked to see the light on. Freddy appeared in front of her with his arms crossed and a worried expression draped across his face, he'd been pacing, he let out a shaky sigh of relief as he moved towards her and wrapped his arms around her.
"You scared me," he whispered into her hair.
"I scared you?" She turned his words over in her mind, you scared me.
He pulled away from her but kept his hands on her sides, "I heard you up before I ended up falling back asleep, when I woke up again and checked on you, you were gone."
"I thought going for a walk would tire me out," she sighed, she felt guilty. "I've been up for ages."
Freddy let out another long breath as he pulled her towards him again, he wasn't mad at her or anything. He didn't have a reason to be. "Maybe leave a note next time," he suggested with a chuckle against her neck. His breath tickled her neck causing her to smile, "noted."
