Despite the shock of knowing that she had just lost her husband, though, Edna knew that she couldn't let her husband's sacrifice go in vain and she also knew that she and her 2 sons had to keep going on now without him! However, soon Edna realized that it wouldn't be long before the police started coming after her, George and Mac next.

She also knew that while she didn't go out much (except to shop), a lot of people would still recognize her and the police would quickly track her and her 2 sons down in no time! This forced Edna to make a difficult choice!

As fast as she could, Edna took the boys to a special anti-communist hideout, asked some of the members there to take care of her sons and for them to take them out of the country. While the anti-communist members agreed to do this, George and Mac pleaded for their mom to not leave them, too, when they realized that she would not be coming with them.

Before Edna left, she looked at and spoke to George and Mac for the last time, "I need you both to be brave and strong and believe in yourselves. You both are still young and you deserve to live a much better and safer life than what would happen to you if you remain here in The Soviet Union. George, I want you and your brother to grow up and one day become brave and strong men and when that happens, don't let anyone push you around and treat you like dirt! Live your lives to the fullest and do whatever you can to make a difference in the world! I love you sons and I know that someday The Soviet Union will fall and freedom and democracy will return to this large and miserable nation!" With that said, Edna left and her 2 sons were left to cry as they were both forcefully put into the back of a truck (by one of the anti-communist members) that took them out of the country.
