It feels so strange not having you here
Tryna fall asleep but I can't
I feel the ghosts of your arms embrace me
I smile sadly and remember
The warmth of your body, the beating
Of your heart, how it calms me
How it lulls me to sleep peacefully
I've taken advantage of this fact countless
Times, over and over and over again
Not really thinking too much about it
Now that it's gone, now I'm alone
Laying in a bed a hundred miles away
Trying so hard to fall asleep when I don't
Have the sound of your steady breath
The feel of your skin, your body against
Mine, bringing safety and comfort and
The endless feeling of deep and true
Love, surrounding me with you, the real
Embodiment of what it's like to be loved
And protected, keeping me safe and sound
From the nightmares and the chills
And the endless train of thought, my
Overthinking mind, calms down when you
Are around and without you, I'm a storm
Unleashed, and the waves crash against
The black sanded beach, shaping the
Outcropping rock jutting defiantly amid
The waves of my feelings and thoughts
And every little insecurity and every source
Of negativity in my mind and body, it's
Straining, trying to fight a losing battle
And this all goes on while I'm lying down
Trying to fall asleep without you beside
Me, trying so hard to close my eyes and
Not let tears slide out, but it still does and
I'm silent, as powerless as I am to stop my
Tears, silently I cry and release a sound
Less sob, and I think of you, and I try
And remember how it feels to be with you
With a promise that no matter how far
And no matter how long, I will try, as hard
As I could, to endure this, being without
You, and still look forward to the day I'll
Reunite, with you, with a smile on my face
And a tear in my eye, no matter how hard
How tiring to fight this losing battle, I will
Always win the war and make sure that
No one and nothing can stand in my way
When I make it to homecoming into your
Warm embrace.
