Chapter 51- The Little Lamb

I stared at my phone blankly. Why did Ethan jump in my life now?! Like my life wasn't complicated enough. He had to jump in and make it even more complicated. I am really bad at handling things. If I try to fix this mess, I will end up making things worse.

Why is it always me? Why can't I handle something by myself? Why do I need help of someone or the other? Why do I always need someone to act like a shield for me? Why can't I be the shield for myself? My head's spinning.

All of a sudden a dark shadow blocked the light above me. Two long fingers and a thumb clasped my phone and took it away from me. I looked up and saw Shane staring at me softly.

'What?' I asked him.

He just patted my head and took a seat beside me.

'Everything will be fine.' He said taking my hand in his. Why is my heart beating so fast? I pulled my hand away from his.

'Trust me with this.' He added with a smile.

I nodded. His brown eyes were looking at me softly. His light pink full lips were curled up into a small-sweet smile. He got up and walked towards his seat.

Should I tell Luke about this? Nah- I don't want him to worry about me. He has a lot on his mind anyways. I should not whine about my problems. When I come to think of it, handling me is a pretty difficult job.

I glanced at Mae. She was engrossed in her textbook. She is so amazing. She handles everything so well. I wish I could do the same.

Before I knew it, it was recess. I sat beside Sia and ate my lunch slowly. Someone arrived and took a seat beside me. Seeing him Sia got up and walked away.

'Where's her boyfriend?' Shane asked me.

'He's absent.' I replied shoving a piece of carrot stick in my mouth.

'Erika do tell Luke about Ethan.' He told me.

'Shane I can't.' I said.

'Why?' He asked me.

I didn't reply.

'Give me one good reason.' He said.

'I don't know Shane. I just don't wanna tell him.' I replied.

'You haven't told him that Ethan is your ex right?' He asked me.

I nodded.

'You are scared that he might get mad at you for not telling him earlier.' He added. Can he read minds?

I nodded.

'Erika that's the last thing Luke would get mad at.' He said laughing.

'I thought we weren't in speaking terms.' I said changing the topic.

'We weren't until your stupid ex showed up.' He said leaning back on the chair and pushing back a bunch of hair off his face. Oh god- Why is he so hot?

'I am sorry but I don't understand.' I said confused.

He sighed and sat back straight which made all the hair fall back on his face. Ugh he!

'You are really sensitive. Even small things have a huge impact on you. You are a little lamb in a world of wolves.' He said. Whaaaaaaaat.....

'Lamb?' I asked him surprised.

He ignored me and said 'People try to take advantage of you. They blame you for things which aren't even your fault.' He isn't wrong.

'I can't believe you were bullied because of me.' He said. Who the hell told him?

'Who told you that?' I enquired.

'I have my own sources.' He replied.

'Shane that wasn't your fault. Emma is a crazy bitch.' I told him.

'In some way or the other it was.' He said.

I sighed.

'I am sorry for that.' He apologized. I looked at him softly. I don't know what to say.

'I am also sorry for touching you without your permission. That was very wrong of me.' He said.

'It's totally fine Shane. I forgive you.' I told him.

'I promise I won't hurt you anymore.' He said.

'I will try and see you just as a friend. Nothing more.' He added.

I just nodded.

'Erika do tell Luke about Ethan. Luke will be really stressed if he finds out later. He will blame himself and think that he's a bad boyfriend.' He told me.

'I will try to tell him.' I said.

'Promise me.' He said.

'Promise.' I replied.

'So what's going on with you and Mae?' I asked him with a naughty smile on my face.

'Oh you. Nothing is going on between me and her. We are just two friends who are enjoying life.' He replied. He sounded kind of annoyed.

'What do you mean by enjoying?' I asked with a smirk.

'By enjoying I mean having fun.' He said in a duh tone.

'OoooOoo! Having fun....' I said laughing.

'Shut up already!' He hissed at me angrily.

The bell rang which indicated that recess was over. I got up from my seat and dumped my lunch plate into the dustbin. I wiped my hand with a tissue.

I saw Shane walking out of the cafeteria. I rushed towards him and put a hand on his shoulder to stop him.

He turned around and looked at me with a questioning look.

Without replying I pulled him into a bone crushing hug in front of the whole corridor. I don't know what came over me. I just wanted to hug him. It's been a while since I hugged him-

'What's this for?' He asked in a whisper.

'For everything.' I replied hugging him even tighter.

'I love you Erika.' He said hugging me back.

'I love you too.' I replied and smiled.

'Are you both done?' I heard Mae ask.

I released Shane's body. He smiled at me. I smiled back.

'You both.' Mae said slapping her head.

I smiled at her forcefully.

'You both look really cute together.' Mae said examining us.

I looked at Shane who was now as red as a tomato.

'But yeah you and Luke look really cute too.' She said.

'Why don't you try dating both of them?' Mae asked me.

I looked at her angrily.

'Ooooh! Or you could break up with Luke and give Shane a chance!!!' She squealed. I really wanna punch her now-

'You should stop talking now.' Shane told her through clenched teeth.

'Good idea.' She said and walked away.

'I am sorry about her she's a little crazy.' He apologized.

I patted his stiff shoulder in response and walked towards class with him.
