READERS POV

I was currently struggling to push my way through the crowds of JFK International Airport to my boarding gate, which was surprisingly jam-packed for six AM in the morning. It seemed as though choosing an earlier flight in hopes of beating the masses had done me absolutely no good. However, it would all be worth it when I landed in Rome, Italy.

Finally making it to the gate with ten minutes to spare, I found an open seat to wait out the last few minutes before we were called to board. My leg was bouncing with anticipation, and the fact that I was watching the clock was not helping the time go by any faster. Sure enough, after a quick fifteen-minute delay, we were finally boarding the plane.

I had opted for a window seat as this was only my second time on an airplane, and last time I had been stuck in the aisle seat. My gaze had been directed outside to the tarmac, but my moment of silence was broken when I heard someone placing their bag in the compartment above our seats. Glancing over, I locked eyes with someone I never thought I'd see on a standard plane. Steve Rogers, better known as Captain America. I offered him a small smile, before resuming looking out the window. I'm sure he was here to get away from everything. Heroes need breaks too, and I wasn't about to take that away from him.

I heard him adjust into his seat, before a soft greeting sounded from beside me. "Hi."

I shifted so that I was now facing Steve, my lips quirking up slightly as I met his gaze. "Hello."

"Steve." He said, holding out his hand for me to shake.

"Y/N." I answered, returning his handshake.

"Italy too?" He questioned.

"Yep." I said, the grin expanding on my face. "I'm finally taking my two weeks' vacation, and it was the one place that I've always wanted to go. You?"

"Just needed to get away." He admitted, his cheeks turning a soft shade of pink.

"That's understandable, I'm sure hero work is tiring. You deserve a break. Everyone does."

"Yeah," he spoke quietly.

The conversation was left at that as the two of us fell into a comfortable silence, both of us settling into our seats waiting for takeoff. Having an almost nine-hour flight ahead of us, conversation picked back up after an hour or so, me finding out that he was staying in Rome as well. Whilst conversing with Steve, I found myself extremely relaxed around him. Everything just seemed to flow so naturally. I hadn't even noticed that I had been drifting off until I found myself being softly shaken awake.

"Y/N, hey. We're about to land," Steve said gently.

"Already?" I questioned, rubbing at my eyes. "Wow, how long was I asleep?

"Four hours give or take."

I sat up, before realizing that I had been sleeping on him. "Oh my god, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to fall asleep on you. I-."

"Hey slow down, breathe. It's okay. I promise," he said with a smile.

"Are you sure?" I asked a little timidly.

"Positive. I wouldn't have let you if I wasn't okay with it."

"Okay." I relented, shooting him a quick smile.

After we landed and departed the plane, Steve and I said our goodbyes, before going our separate ways. I made my way over to the luggage claim, grabbing my suitcase and exiting the airport, searching for the car I had ordered to take me to my hotel.
