A world where you live in black in white until you meet your soulmate.

READERS POV

I stared at the wedding invitation that I was holding in my hand. My best friend Layla had found her soulmate three months ago and now they were getting married.

Sighing, I pinned it to my fridge. All of my friends from high school and college had found their soulmates and were moving on with their lives. Yet here I was alone.

I wondered if I even had a soulmate most days. I have the ability to create and manipulate the earth, and I was seriously questioning if the universe denied me one because I was a freak. Layla's always telling me that I'm wrong though. That I'm not the monster I've convinced myself I am. That just because I have abilities doesn't mean I don't have a soulmate. I haven't quite decided if I believe her or not yet though no matter how many times she tells me this.

After I graduated college a year ago, I opened up my own flower shop and business was thriving. Keeping plants alive was the one thing I was good at, so I got my business degree and opened Divine Florals.

The only downside to this was that since I hadn't found my soulmate yet, everything was in black and white. I hated not being able to see all of the bright colours. Life was dull living in this way. However, my inability to see colour didn't stop me from creating great arrangements.

When I ordered my flowers, they all came with labels stating what colour they were. Obviously, I knew colour theory as well, so I knew what worked together and what didn't. After a year of doing this, I was now able to differentiate which colours were which as well without having to read the labels. I wondered what colour flowers Layla would go for now that she can see colour. My bet was on purple.

Glancing back at the invitation, I couldn't help but smile. I was really happy for her. Adam's a great guy.

I shifted my gaze over to the clock on my oven looking at the time. Time to go to work.

I peeked out my window seeing clear skies, thanking the lord. My apartment was a block away from my shop, and it's not all that fun to be walking in the rain. Living this close and driving was pointless.

Grabbing my purse, house keys, and phone, I slipped on my white tennis shoes before starting my trek to work. I was zoned out when I suddenly bumped into someone making them drop their book. "Oh my god, I'm so sorry." I uttered out.

"It's okay ma'am." The man said as I bent down quickly grabbing it for him, before looking up at the face of Steve Rogers. Just like that, everything around me burst into colour.

"Oh my god, your eyes are so blue." I breathed out, the both of us standing there in shock.

A second later, I was being picked up and spun around. A booming laughter coming from Steve's chest, my own laughter joining his.

"Finally." He said with wonder, slowing to a stop but not letting me out of his embrace. "I never thought I'd meet you. Wow."

I grinned up at him. "I never thought I'd meet you either, though I haven't been waiting nearly as long as you have. I'm Y/N. Y/N Y/L/N."

"Steve Rogers. But I get the feeling you already know that. Though I am curious as to know why you thought you'd never meet me?" He asked.

"All of my friends from high school and college have already found theirs. I was the only one who hadn't." I looked down a little. "I always thought that because I have earth abilities, the universe thought I was a freak or something and denied me a soulmate."

Steve squeezed me a little tighter. "I promise you that your abilities don't make you a freak. They make you unique. And no, I'm not just saying that."

"Thank you, Steve." I said softly, gripping onto him a little more. I was kind of scared that this was all a dream, and that he'd disappear if I let him go. We stayed in a comfortable silence for a couple more minutes, just elated to be finally holding each other before I suddenly remembered that I was supposed to be at work.

"Shoot." I said pulling away hastily, even though I didn't want to.

"What?"

"I was on my way to work when I bumped into you. I'm the boss, but still." I explained to him, laughing.

It was then that I realized I would finally be able to see all of the flower's colours making me gasp. Grabbing Steve's hand, I quickly pulled him forward causing him to stumble slightly and started dragging him towards my shop.

Once we arrived, I released his hand as I made quick work of unlocking my door, sparing a quick glance over to Steve to see that he was reading my sign.

As soon as the door was unlocked and I stepped inside, I smiled. Wait till Layla hears about this.
