READERS POV

It was a slow day today at Bruno's Cafe, especially for a Wednesday. Usually it was bustling with people, but here I was leaning against the counter and watching the few regulars mill about. I'd let my two employees who'd worked today leave early, as they'd just be doing the same thing that I was doing at the moment. I was so lost in my daydreaming, that I hadn't even noticed the man enter until he'd come up to the counter and cleared his throat to get my attention.

I was immediately startled out of my daze and looked up meeting eyes with the man. My God was he was handsome. He had a kind of old aged charm to him, and seemed a bit out of place, but I didn't question it.

A blush dusted over my cheeks, turning them a rosy pink. "I'm so sorry, I didn't even hear or see you come in. It's not all that busy and I was completely lost in my mind. I'm Y/N, what can I get for you today?" I rambled out.

"It's no worries ma'am." He began. So, he is old fashioned. Okay. Nice change, I thought. "I'll take an americano please."

"For here, or to go?"

"I'll take it for here, if you don't mind. I'm in no rush."

"For here it is," I said smiling at him. "Your total comes to three dollars."

The man handed me a five-dollar bill and I took it from him giving him his change, which he just ended up putting in the tip jar. "If you want to grab a seat, I'll bring it over to you in a minute."

He nodded his head, offering me a smile, before going and sitting in a booth towards the back. I quickly got to work on his drink and was bringing it over to him in no time at all.

"One americano." I said, placing his drink on the table in front of him. "If you need anything else, just call me over."

I shot the man a smile, and I was about to return to my post behind the counter when his voice stopped me.

"Do you want to join me? Like you said, it's not that busy, and you seem to be pretty bored just standing there." He spoke.

I pondered his question for a moment. I mean, I was pretty bored. He wasn't wrong. Glancing around the cafe and seeing that everyone was still content and not needing anything, I decided to take him up on his offer.

I sat down across from him and took his hand that he had held out for me to shake. "I'm Steve," he introduced himself.

"Well, it's very nice to meet you, Steve. So, what brings you to my humble cafe?" I asked, letting go of his hand.

"Just needed a break. I saw it on my walk and decided to give it a go."

"I promise you won't be disappointed. The coffee here is great. Though personally, the hot chocolate is my favourite."

"I'll have to keep that in mind for next time. Is it always like this?" He said, gesturing with his hand around the room, referring to the place being dead.

"Not usually, especially on Wednesdays. My guess is that the rush has just decided to start a little late today."

"Is it only you working right now?"

"Yeah. I had two employees here earlier, but I sent them home early otherwise they'd be doing exactly what you found me doing when you walked in. If the rush does come, like I'm thinking it will soon, it'll be okay. Most of my customers are regulars anyway."
