NAT'S POV
I'd recently caught wind that HYDRA had sent out an assassin to kill me, and had been taking extra precautions, but none good enough it seemed as a bullet grazed by my ear. I turned on my feet, briefly catching sight of a widow, before they slunk away. HYDRA and the Red Room had been in cahoots for a long time, but I had no idea that the Red Room had been shipping out widows for HYDRA'S own personal use.
A flurry of movement flashed before me, and I caught sight of the widow a few paces ahead. I drew my own gun as she turned to face me, and my heart stopped in my chest. Y/N. The love of my life. My falter was all she needed to gain the upper hand as Y/N raised her gun, firing at me. I narrowly avoided the bullet, slinking to the left, just in time for it to whiz by.
"Y/N, love. It's Nat. It's your Nat." I spoke, trying to coax a reaction out of her.
"Who the fuck is Nat? You're my mission." She responded coldly, pulling the trigger again.
I dodged the bullet and ran down the street a little, ducking behind a dumpster. Shit, she doesn't remember who I am. What the hell did they do to her? I peered around the edge of the dumpster, seeing Y/N glancing around aimlessly as she tried to figure out where I'd gone. Even if she didn't remember, I did. I'd always been able to evade her, then sneak up on her, and I was about to use that to my advantage. It was her one downfall. The Red Room had probably figured out about our relationship and suggested her to trip me up, but they failed to realize that because of this I knew everything about her. Including the things that she needed improvement on, and seemingly still does.
I waited until her back was turned towards me before stealthily sneaking up behind her. I eased my fingers into the pressure point on her neck, putting her to sleep instantly, before taking her in my arms and carrying her to my car. I set her down gently in the passenger seat, not bothering with tying her up as she'd be out for a while. Before I drove off, I turned her head so that I had access to the back of her neck, and gently brushed the few hairs away from it. Grabbing a knife, I made a small incision, removing her tracker. I crushed it between my fingers, then searched her person for a cellphone. Once I'd acquired it, I tossed it out the window, watching as a car rolled over it, smashing to pieces.
Now that they had no means of tracking her, I drove to the safehouse I'd been staying in a few blocks away. When we arrived, I picked her up, carrying her inside and straight to the guest bedroom. I lay her down, cuffing her wrist to the bedframe, before doing a search of her person for weapons. Once I'd found them all, I placed them on the dresser before walking back over to her.
I swept a few hairs out of her face with my hand, admiring her while she slept. It'd been years since I'd last seen her, and not a day had gone by when I didn't think of her.
I fought with the decision to go with Clint, because going with him meant leaving Y/N behind at that horrid place. She's my world, and the only thing that kept me going.
"Nat, if you're coming with me, we've got to go now." Clint said hastily. "This should be an easy decision. Come with me or die."
If only you knew, I thought. I battled with my conscience for another moment before turning and following Barton. If it wasn't him, it be someone else, and I doubt they'd give me the option of sparing my life like he did.
One we'd settled at S.H.I.E.L.D, I snuck away to the room I'd been given to write an encrypted letter to Y/N.
Love,
