Mayne lay cuddled up to Rime, the memories of life with her parents running through her dreams. The things she used to frown on she now looked back on with melancholy regret. Her parents preferred to keep her busy sorting her life out on her own, foraging her own path. She grew up being loved and ignored at the same time. She loved the family she had found and couldn't imagine losing them but sometimes when it was still, she missed the moments of the past. The quiet days in her room listening to her parents give a lecture in the sitting room lingered in her mind tonight, every word echoed in her mind. She had heard this lecture so many times she could give it but tonight the words stung because this was the memory of the last time they gave it.

Mayne tossed a bit; she rolled over the other way with her back to Rime. She whimpered in her sleep until Rime rolled over and put his arm on her side to soothe her. Mayne relaxed and Rime let his arm fall behind her. Mayne woke up slowly, the room was dark with just the hint of light coming from a dimly lit lamp on the desk. The room was still, other than the sound of quiet music playing from a room nearby the house was silent. Mayne felt Rime still beside her as he silently slept, he had his right arm against her back and his hand against her butt. Mayne guessed that this was to make sure if she had any problems he would know instantly. She heard the faint snores coming from the other side of the room saying Ardor was also fast asleep.

She shifted in the bed carefully and sat up, trying not to disturb Rime beside her. Rime rustled a bit then went back to sleep. Silently she slipped out of bed and made her way out of the room to the rest of the house. Mayne made her way to the kitchen and began to look for a snack, rummaging through a cupboard she noticed a paper on the counter with her name on it. Forgetting about the food she picked it up to read it.

"It says that VARE is fighting us for your parents Eido." Elissa spoke softly but still made Mayne jump.

"How is that possible?" Mayne asked

"By some stretch of insanity they think that since it was out of your custody it is up for grabs." Elissa was frustrated, Mayne could sense hints of anger in her voice when she mentioned VARE.

"No, my parents kept the only way in, a solid key to the Eido, it has always been with them or me..." according to the promise made by the VP my parents place is locked and all objects there are mine." She sighed "that means the key hasn't left custody of my family."

                       "Can you prove that?"

"What?" Mayne huffed "why do I need to?"

"Because they are great at forging both paperwork and the truth." Elissa rolled her eyes "in reality Mayne they are just stalling for time until they can locate where the Eido is and take it by force."

"What would the key look like?" Mayne's brow furrowed as she thought.

"Are you asking me or your visions?" Elissa was angry, Mayne sensed that it was about more than just VARE.
