this chapter will have a lot of POV changes

Sam -2 weeks later-

Colby comes into my room.

"Hey Sam. I'll be back in a week."

"What?"

"Brennen and I are going to Australia. Didn't I tell you?

"No you didn't," I say.

"Oh sorry. Well, I've gotta go," he says.

"Bye."

We talked when he got home from Japan and he confided in me. But when Brennen got back, Colby started spending all his time with him.

Colby

Brennen and I land in Australia and head to our hotel. We spend the week away exploring random places. Some of them are abandoned places that Sam and I explored when we came here. The trip was fun and it was nice to get away but I'm ready to go home.

Brennen

I think my plan is working. I know Sam has to be upset and mad that I'm on a trip with Colby, exploring places that they went together. Colby will be mine.

Sam

Colby comes home today. I don't know how to feel. I missed him but I'm a little hurt that he didn't invite me.

"Hey, Colby's home," Corey yells from downstairs.

I stay in my room, deciding in that moment that I don't want to see him. Someone knocks on my door but I ignore it.

"Sam, it's Colby."

"Go away."

Corey

Colby comes downstairs, tears in his eyes.

"Colby, what happened?"

"I'm leaving," he says, grabbing his keys.

Brennen

Someone knocks on my door and I open it. Colby collapses in my arms, crying.

"What happened?"

"Sam hates me."

"You can stay here."

"Thanks."

My plan is definitely working. They won't last like this for long. Colby stays with me for a few days but then says he has to leave.

"You don't have to go," I say.

"Elton said we need to have a house meeting. I have to go," he says, grabbing his keys.

Colby

I arrive home and find all the roommates sitting in the living room.

"Nice of you to join us," Sam says.

Ouch, does he really hate me that much?

"Sam," Elton says warningly.

"What's going on?" I ask.

"Our lease is up next month and we need to decide what to do," Elton says.

"Well, I want to move out," I say.

"Me too," says Sam, not meeting anyone's eyes.

"So we aren't renewing the lease then?" Elton asks.

"Guess not," Corey says.

I head to my room and start looking for apartments.

-2 weeks later-

I'm moving into my new apartment today. I pack up my car and the moving van. I drive the moving van and Jake drives my car. We're sharing the moving van because we're moving into the same apartment building.

Sam

Colby and Jake are moving out today and I'm moving out tomorrow. I keep to my room, packing and organizing trying to drown out the sounds of Jake and Colby moving out. It doesn't feel right. If this was a perfect world, Colby and I would be together, maybe even moving in together. But it isn't. I leave my room in the late afternoon and stare at Colby's empty room. Unbeknownst to me, Elton comes up behind me.

"You miss him don't you?"

"Yeah I do," I say.

The house is so quiet and empty without them. My heart feels empty, like he ripped a hole through it when he left. Why did he leave without me? Why did I have to fall in love with him? Why does this hurt so bad?

"Sam?"

I ignore him and go back to my room.

-The next day-

Elton drives me to my new apartment to help me move in. After several hours, we've finished unloading the van. The hours were filled with silence because I can't bring myself to talk right now. We return the van and I drop Elton off. I lay down on my bed and fall asleep. The days pass in a blur as I try to get used to the silence of my apartment. I find myself staring at Colby's number, wanting to talk to him, to see how he's doing. We've never gone this long without talking and it feels like something is missing.

I'm walking around the grounds of the building when I bump into someone. Not that surprising since I've been keeping my head down. But something tells me to look up and I meet familiar eyes. Colby.

"C-colby?" Damn it, why do I have to stutter now?

"Uh, hi," he says.

"Umm, you moved in here?" Obviously, why else would he be here?

"Yeah."

"Oh."

"Weird huh?" he asks.

"Yeah. well um, see ya," I say, walking away.

"Sam, wait," he says, jogging to catch up with me.

"Yeah?"

"I'm sorry. I miss you. I miss talking to you, I miss seeing you."

"I need time," I say.

"Right okay, sure," he says.

I walk away, my mind racing.
