Hello guys! I am back with yet another chapter. I am going to warn you from before itself that this chapter is sad and even hurtful in some ways. And if I were to be honest, I would admit that I did cry while writing this one. If you guys feel even a little of the emotion and thought I put in here, I'll be delighted. Feel free to comment, and enjoy. :)
Her words were still reverberating in his mind and his heart suddenly ached. What did Hailey just tell him? And was this the truth? Because if it was, he didn't know how to react other than feeling greatly hurt and disappointed. Hailey sensed all of this and she moved away from his embrace and sat up facing him. Jay met her eyes and her fears were confirmed, he was hurt. He sat up too, really wondering what to tell her next. The fact that both of them were naked did not escape their notice. Finally Jay mustered enough courage to ask her, "What?"
And that one word was enough to crush Hailey's heart. She felt terrible and simply looked at one him, genuinely wondering what she could say in this moment. But Jay continued, still registering the information, "Hailey, why are you leaving? Is this because of Voight?"
He had hit the correct point and Hailey just stared at him, knowing now that there was nothing more to discuss. He understood her silence and looked away in surprise combined with disgust. So it had come down to this eventually, one of them had to leave Intelligence. But Jay wondered why did she have to sacrifice her career for Voight's rules? Then it hit him, he realised what the matter really was and said, "No, I am not letting you do that. You're not leaving because of me."
Hailey understood that Jay had understood everything in a matter of minutes and honestly she was glad. Because having to explain everything would have been too painful and strenuous. This way, everything was sorted, she would leave, Jay would know what was happening and there wouldn't be unnecessary heartaches. But she didn't realise that Jay was not going to let her do that at any cost. He wouldn't agree to this at all.
Hailey spoke finally, having composed herself, "Jay, please don't make this harder than it already is. We still have tonight to spend. And you have to leave in the morning."
Jay looked at her in surprise and spoke, "I am the one who is making things harder?" He placed his hands on her shoulders for emphasis, "Do you realise how hard this is for me Hailey?"
He was staring directly in her eyes and she was overwhelmed by his touch and emotions. She blinked to let the emotion pass. He continued, in an almost defeated voice, "Hailey, how did you even think I was going to let you do this?"
She approached him and placed her hands on his cheeks, "Because you are the most understanding person I know. And I know that you understand the consequences very well."
He pulled out of her touch and looked away and she knew he was angry, otherwise he would never act in such a manner. She tried to coax him, tried pulling his face in her hands but he refused, he didn't come. He just looked away. Then he got down from the bed and began looking for his clothes. He started dressing and Hailey sensed she had to intervene now. She too got down and dressed herself quickly. Once Jay was finished she saw him head towards the main door. She followed him and spoke, "Jay, where are you going?" concern and worry evident in her voice.
He turned to look at her for a moment and started walking again, this time Hailey grabbed his hand and stopped him, "Jay, if you're angry at me, scream at me. If you're mad, yell at me, but please say something Jay," desperation was evident in her voice and tears had formed in her eyes.
He looked at her for a moment and smiled sadly, saying, "Hailey I can never be angry at you. I'm just extremely hurt and disappointed."
The tears that had formed in her eyes flowed down now. Jay too was tearful, he didn't cry so often but when he did it was always related to Hailey, showing how much she meant to him. She approached him and hugged him, he didn't react. She held him tightly, crying on his chest but Jay didn't hold her. The only proof that she had he was affected by this was that she felt his lone tears fall on her hair. She stayed there hoping to get some reaction from him but he didn't move. Then gently he pushed her away and said softly, unable to control his emotions any longer, "I should go."
