She called me daddy

After 3 months of interviewing couples, we found the perfect one.

Shane and Grace.

They were a nice couple from New york city. A teacher and a journalist.

They didn't have much money but they had enough to support a child along with themselves. And they were in love. They loved us, our baby, each other and we loved them.

They reminded me of an older version of me and Charlie. Before all of the drama. Maybe we could have been them if I hadn't screwed up with Vinnie.

Shane and Charlie had the same eyes. The same odd textured brown hair.

Grace and I had the same skin tone, same hair, same overwhelming high pitched voice. Everything was coming into play.

This baby could grow up believing they were his birth parents which technically wasn't a lie since they were there for his birth (or her birth.) Charlie convinced me it was a boy. We didn't want to know the gender until the birth.

The agreement was that Shane and Grace would invite us to as many birthday parties as we could attend. They would let us babysit sometimes, and Casey would get to grow up beside him with one condition... he wouldn't know.

This baby will grow up never knowing we were his actual parents.

I was okay with that. Honestly. If the he looked anything like me or Charlie, he would definitely be able to pass for their son. I wasn't sure how I felt about lying to him and hiding who he is but if that's what they want, that's how things will be.

For the first time in a very very long time we were able to have a nice family dinner.

Yes. Family. They were my family and I loved them more than anything.

Me, Casey, Charlie, Vinnie, Sienna, Melina, Stue and Rose.

They were there from the beginning and I'm so happy to say that they're still here now.

Or at least some are.

Lately Melina has been acting oddly. She isn't eating very much and she doesn't speak that often. She's always around but never... there.

She and Vinnie have been having problems since Thanksgiving. I thought they would have been over that by now. But they aren't. Which is weird.

I'm happy they're still together but I can't really tell if they are.

"Let's make a toast." Stue cleared his throat.

"You know that probably would have been a great idea, 40 minutes ago... when dinner started."
Vinnie sighed.

"Okay well I'm doing it now so.. deal with it perm boy." Stue replied. "I think we should toast to Yale and this beautiful baby who we will all love. Also Grace and Shane who aren't here right now. They're gonna take that ugly monster away and do all of the hard shit while we take it out for ice cream on occasion!"

"Him." Charlie said.

We all looked in Charlie's direction, sighing and getting up from our seats.

It's been a long night of him and Melina acting like weirdos. They can both feel free to sleep on the couch.

I wrapped Casey up in a jacket, as she grabbed my hand, smiling.

How did this insane little miracle happen to me?

Vinnie watched her as well and I could tell we were both thinking the same thing.

I let go of Casey's hand. "Go say bye to daddy."

She immediately stumbled over to Vinnie wrapping her arms around him.

Apparently this doesn't last very long but I want to hold on to her as long as I can.

"You ready to go?" Charlie said stretching his arms.

"Yeah. Casey let's get going!"

She ran over to Charlie wrapping her hands around his knees. "Come on daddy!"

We all hesitated in response to what Casey said.

"Did she just call me daddy?"

Vinnie ran his hands through his hair. "She did."

Melina turned around running towards the bathroom and slamming the door. What the hell is wrong with her? I gave Vinnie a concerned look.

"She's been doing that a lot lately."

"Is she alright." Since questioned.

"I honestly don't know."

Charlie was still in shock as he repeated. "She called me daddy."

I placed my hand on his shoulder. "She called you daddy."
