Their two extended bodies rested tight against each other on the sofa.  Angie's breathing slowly calmed down to normal and, warm in Connor's arms that she had snuggled into after their lovemaking, she was starting to doze, when his voice pulled her out of her blissful torpor.

- Thank you, he whispered.

- Hmm ... you don't have to thank me ... or I have to thank you too, she replied, mutinous.

He smiles.

- I mean, to have had the courage to let me chain you.

She laughed.

- There was no courage here, I knew very well that you wouldn't hurt me ... without my consent, she added with a wink.

Connor looked taken aback for a moment then continued:

- It had been so long that I had no control over the events of my life ... over my own body ...

He broke off, at a loss for words.

- I know, Connor, Angie reassured him, running a hand over his cheek.  When I saw you regain control over Zlatko, I knew I had to let you take control to regain your self-confidence.

- You understand me so well, Connor sighed softly.  I love you, Angie.

He hugged her so suddenly that she didn't have time to answer.  He could have crushed her in his steel arms but she only felt security and love. When he let go of her and she rested her head on the pillow, he fell silent again for a long moment.  She took the opportunity to observe his perfect face which had become so expressive.

- Something bothering you?  She asked when she noticed a slight frown.

- Well ... I thought ... he hesitated.  What about Bryan?  He finally let go, looking her in the eyes.

Angie flushed with embarrassment and guilt, she hadn't thought of Bryan once since she admitted her feelings for Connor.

- He ... I ... She stuck before deciding with a sigh.  We broke up several days ago.  Well, it's a little more complicated than that ...

She took the time to explain to Connor the choice her ex-boyfriend had offered her and its consequences.  Bryan had understood, before her and without even seeing them together, that she had never completely stopped loving Connor.

- You've gotta go see him, said the latter in a firm tone that didn't admit of a reply.

- Yes, you're right, I have to explain the situation to him.

It sure wasn't going to be a pleasant conversation but it was necessary, it would be cruel to leave the young man in doubt and in the hope that he could win her back.

- I still don't understand why you chose me in his place!  Connor exclaimed.

- But ... you don't even know him ...

- It's enough for me to know that he's a human. Who can eat what you eat, who can smell what you smell, who can ... grow old by your side ...

She hadn't thought that these kinds of details could worry him, she found it all so secondary.

- For aging, it's something that we'll manage as we go along ... She reassured him.  And for the rest, what do you think of a person who feels for me what I feel for him?  Man or robot, what importance in the end?

- You really think so?

- Listen Connor, I really like Bryan, she began to explain, secretly delighting in the jealous expression on his face, but what I could feel for him is so far away from what I'm feeling for you.  It would be like comparing the light of a candle to that of the sun.
