Angie had also put on casual clothes, rather dark to blend in with the night, she had also taken off her splint to be freer of her movements and had followed Connor without him noticing it.
He had taken the train, stopping at Ferndale, where he had observed several murals before heading down dark alleys. The paintings had to hide a code as it kept moving from one to the other, riding on cars and climb ruins to reach some of them. Angie was having a hard time following him, she didn't have android abilities and still couldn't use her left arm, so she had to make a few detours trying not to lose track.
She saw him disappear into a building whose entrance was sixteen feet above the ground, inaccessible to her. She looked for a few minutes before finding, hidden in the shadows, a staircase, she took it and came out on a metal gangway above the docks. Connor was no longer visible, but in front of her was a huge cargo ship, half rusty and peeling in paint, although its name could still be read on its side: Jericho! They had found it!
Connor must have already been inside to hunt down Markus. She had to stop him. Not far from her was a metal gangway that led straight to the deck of the ship, she approached it silently and gently put her foot on it. The catwalk creaked in the night, she crossed her fingers for the rusty-looking metal to hold up, took a deep breath and stepped forward cautiously.
A sinister creak echoed with each of her steps, she dared not look down because several feet separated her from the ground. Suddenly the memory of the roof incident paralyzed her, she could neither move forward nor backward like at Stratford Tower. Then she heard voices echoing in the distance, the deviants, the mission, she had to stop Connor, that thought, and the more buried thought of having to save him, gave her the courage to keep moving forward.
Finally she found herself safe on the upper deck of the boat where she could breathe with relief. It was dimly lit but her eyes had already grown used to the dark. She walked over to the origin of the voices, which she still heard, just to start her research somewhere.
She took some stairs, walked around crates of goods, and finally saw, a little higher up, a rusty cabin that must have been the cockpit. The voices were coming from within. She was about to approach it when she saw a dark figure pressed against the outer wall; despite the different clothes, she immediately recognized Connor.
She hid behind a container so he wouldn't spot her, but continued to watch him while thinking on what happened next. How to stop him? She could try to reason with him, make him understand that he had to cancel his mission, but she had already tried and failed to convince him. She couldn't use force; he would surely surpass her. She could, as a last resort, injure him, or even kill him, that would give them a break while CyberLife sends out a new model of RK800, but would she be able to?
Several people - deviants she supposed - came out of the cabin. Angie saw Connor pull out a gun and walk silently into the room. Was Markus there? This was very likely as he was the deviant hunter's primary target. The young policewoman came out of her hiding place to rush after him. The deviant leader was there indeed because she heard Connor threatening him.
- I've been ordered to take you alive, the voice of her teammate was saying, but I won't hesitate to shoot if you give me no choice.
- What are you doing ?
Angie recognized Markus' voice, the same soothing voice as during his speech.
